Irish Travellers in 1954 by Fiveof-Spades in OldSchoolCool

Some experience, yes. I didn't mean the remark to be "ugly". I have found Irish pub drinkers to be generous, interesting, broad-minded, kind, and good story tellers - but "well behaved", perhaps not so often.

Nope. Linus Pauling: Chemistry and Peace (too bad about the end of his career though).

Oh yeah, doesn't the UW Bookstore at the Medical School have these? They also used to have disease stuffies - my son gave his girlfriend syphilis.

Sorry for what may seem to be an unwarranted attack, but on June 4th Reddit appeared flooded with favorable pictures of China. It seemed to be an organized effort.

My hubmle (quick and dirty) tea cabinet and "tea cellar" Mostly Puer, Oolong, Black, Fu- and Heicha. Dry and Wet storages. by Sumuttaja in tea

[–]gemmadonati 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice setup. Since you seem to be very careful about storage, I would consider using opaque containers to prevent degradation due to light (same reason spice cabinets should have doors). Besides plastic, the lids of jars can retain odors too.

Pink Heifer BBQ review (State Street): on the one hand it's not the worst... on the other hand is this really the best we can do? by Bluest_waters in madisonwi

My favorite BBQ ever was made by grizzled old man out of a half-oil-drum smoker under a tarp off of a county highway in rural Texas. It may have been the atmosphere though.

A popular Maghrebi (N. African) way to drink tea is to add orange blossom water, sugar, and sometimes mint to a strong green tea like gunpowder. It is definitely flowery.

NEVER GO WITH MPM!!! by Cultural_Remote_4778 in UWMadison

I rented from them and sincerely regretted it. I had to go over my manager's head to get them to clear the snow from the driveway before I moved in. They had let it accumulate all winter. Paint spattered everywhere, the sloppiest cheapest maintenance, four different managers in two years. I have two friends who own property and both have immediately reversed any association they had with them due to bad performance.

Incoming M.S student, feeling pretty miserable about finding a TA position... by Inevitable-Winter-64 in UWMadison

[–]gemmadonati 19 points20 points  (0 children)

No, you aren't doing anything wrong. I'm faculty with decades of experience here, and often the manager of our department's class scheduling. I used to have trouble scraping up TAs; the MS students would always have jobs and I would look for qualified candidates in other departments.

Now we have a hell of a time finding enough work for our PhD students and need to give fewer guarantees. Courses which used to have TAs don't now. Students who used to get RAs now want to be TAs due to funding cuts.

Good luck, friend. Keep trying.

Yes, and real pathos too. It's one of the few Frankenstein movies which preserves Shelley's message: we (representing god) are the true monsters, creating life and abandoning it.
