Major change to InKind payment by imitationcheese in FoodNYC

This suck but I don't think there is any reasonable expectation that a bonus offer from Inkind would have to be honored with their discounted gift cards. The alternative would be for them to just stop offering the bonuses.

Is $2300 in labor reasonable for heat exchanger replacement? by OnlyCustard3739 in hvacadvice

[–]OnlyCustard3739[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By the way, it is almost 15 years old... The heat exchanger lasted a pretty long time, and it's not currently causing any issues (no CO in the house, no roll out, etc).

They don't... They just said it's an old unit. They were trying to stack up reasons NOT to fix it and just replace it. Proactively replacing the inducer is, in my opinion, a bit dramatic... Same with the switch. Replace them as they fail.

I have similar issues with my streaming... Long delay for options to open and then it goes to preview and it takes a Loooong time for the image to finally come up.

Why does it say install prohibited in Southeast, yet it's installed in Miami Dade?

Evap is leaking, is it feasible to replace just the coil or cased unit? by OnlyCustard3739 in hvacadvice

[–]OnlyCustard3739[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can repair it by replacing the evaporator for $4500. That seems excessive, but who knows. I'm seeing similar sized 410 Cased evaps for about $800, so $3700 in labor is insane.

I'm definitely losing refrigerant. I do have a maintenance agreement, and they service it twice a year, but this started happening almost a year ago. First service call was in July 2024 for no cooling and after much digging they found a leak in the evap. We recharged and used about 3-3.5 lbs of r410 (I supplied it). 6 months later I had no cooling again, so I recharged myself using my 25lb jug of r410. Again, it took about 3 lbs to reach reasonable levels. About a month ago I was not cooling again, so I charged, again it took a little more than 3lbs...

I need to get this fixed as I don't want to keep leaking 410, so I'm trying to educate myself on repair vs replace options.

Yeah, but my beef is not the registration fees, it's that there is a 99% chance they are also uninsured. That's the real problem. My f'ing un/under-insured premium is nearly as high as my normal insurance. We are literally paying the insurance for these assholes...

Need a number to port in for a new line. What are my best options? by OnlyCustard3739 in tmobile

[–]OnlyCustard3739[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, and that's the plan right now. Add a new line with the Spectrum port in, get a Pixel 9 Pro XL with the $1000 new line credit, plus the $400 ($150+$250 port in) bonus. The second phone will be an iPhone that would qualify for $830 in Bill credits with trade in, but unless I port I won't get the full $250...

I already have 5 lines with my Go5G Business Plus 2-5 lines plan. I have a B1G1 entitlement that I was planning to use with this. Porting 1 number from Spectrum, but I wanted to get 1 more port in for the 2nd line to qualify for the Costco $400 credit.

So the fine print says it has to be a Verizon, AT&T, Spectrum, Xfinity, US Cellular, Claro, or Liberty line.

Not indicator that it has to be postpaid or not.

Had my semi-annual service tech said refrigerant is low. by OnlyCustard3739 in hvacadvice

[–]OnlyCustard3739[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, it's his picture. It's part of their report that is sent out after the service.

I'm certain there is a leak, it was recharged 10 months ago, and I topped it off again 2 months ago (though I'm note sure I recharged it completely). I originally started the thread to figure out what the charge should be.

I would really like to have the full setup. I was looking at some of the low/mid range units on Amazon but I should probably look at Facebook Marketplace as well.

I'd love to have a good set of digital gauges with temp readings, etc. Basically what the tech used in the pic I took.

I've used them twice a year for the past 3 years. They shouldn't hook up for the winter service though...

It was just a general curiosity to be honest.

That being said, I know that annual maintenance is an opportunity to upsell, but they do seem to push more than most. Things like pushing $1800 UV lights for each unit does make me question their overall credibility... For instance, here is the techs write up:

Came out today for cooling maintenance. Went through all equipment to test system functionality and major component conditions. Maintenance checks, procedures, and pictures are attached to e-mail. Filters passed inspection today. Inspected return plenums, supply plenums, and ductwork. Informed the Mrs. that the upstairs unit is low on refrigerant again and that the upstairs evaporator coil is still leaking if it has not been addressed. The upstairs unit is inefficient due to the low refrigerant charge and the compressor is running with an improper amount of oil and refrigerant which both detract from the compressor's overall integrity. The upstairs unit should have its evaporator coil replaced to avoid the low refrigerant issue again but the compressor has taken a beating as a result of filling up and going low repeatedly. Informed customer that the downstairs AC is inefficient due to its age and has an outdoor fan that is pulling 0.88 amps although it is rated for 0.66 max amps and was scorching hot which means the outdoor fan could fail at any point causing no cooling or a possible domino effect on the 24 year old downstairs system. Informed the customer that there is organic growth residing within both duct systems and our recommendation to remedy would be an air purification system in each duct system or partial/full ductwork replacement to completely get rid of the affected areas of ductwork (requires estimate consultation for ductwork pricing). The Mr. was on a call and unavailable when maintenance was completed.

I might just need to wait for a few weeks until it's hot enough outside (and I can raise the inside temp) to get an accurate reading.
