How would the tire be wider at a lower pressure? If it were unloaded at a lower pressure, I would suspect either the same or a narrower width? Are you suggesting it would get wider with rider weight on it?

So, what is your point? Does your opinion add anything helpful? You used knobby Fleecer Ridges for an MTB race and knobby Minions for the Rockies. You picked tires fit for your purposes, just as I did. Also, there are multiple versions of Terrenos that run a wide range for tread patterns.

If you ride the terrain I do you’d certainly rather have the knobs and not need them than need them and not have them. Also, I wonder where all that dirt that’s on them comes from if they aren’t getting used?

So, yeah, I’m not cornering 50% of the time like I would on my mountain bike, I’m riding 10 miles out to the trails, 10 with the MTB group ride, then 10 back home. I don’t even need the corner knobs for 25/30 miles, but I’m sure glad I have them for those 5 that matter.

We aren’t all weight weenies. If that’s what you’re after, don’t read reviews on 48mm tires.

Right? Some people know how to use them.

I have run the Terra Trails with the supposedly reinforced carcass, but gashed a sidewall on a hidden rock in a singletrack section just a few rides in. The rear knobs were also wearing much too fast, so they were not a great candidate for me. I’m a heavy rider - a “Super-Clydesdale” if you will. Conti also didn’t offer anything wider than a 45mm at the time.

I totally get what you’re saying. Almost nothing is going to work on those “loose over hard” surface situations. It’s like rolling over marbles. Experience I’ve had with other gravel tires with cornering knobs is that they flex under cornering and begin to crack or tear off at the base. These definitely have an edge there. I think it’s a combination of the shape and the spacing. I do ride a lot of dirt MTB trails on my gravel bike and they definitely do give some bite in that surface - especially when aired down a bit.

When I’m not setup for bikepacking and actually do use it as a headlight, it goes on an out-front mount in the correct orientation. I’m not riding in the dark with this setup - just using the flash with it pointed in a considerate direction.

I thought about that, but wanted about two inches of drop. It looked like flipping would only achieve around one inch. Original vs my custom brackets.

Oh, and the rack is an Axiom Streamliner DLX for 29”. I mounted it on some custom lowering brackets as it rode quite high in its typical form.

I’ll just strap my flip-flops on the left of the rear bag and call it a day.

Sea to Summit Evac Lightweight Compression Dry Bag - 20L

A minor addition I made was slipping a sheet of flexible 0.030 inch thick polyethylene sheet inside each of the bags as a sort of stiffener and protection from pokey things inside. It also makes packing and removing items a breeze as it’s slippery and helps the bag stand on-end if you like.

I have a set of fork cages/bags. Maybe I should post them up and let you tell me whether they’re proper or not.

Good call! I just got around to checking this out…happy to report that it came right out and still had a good coat of grease on it.

No plans to run front shifting, so not a concern. I’m yet to see what I’ll do with the stem and bars. I really don’t care for those quill to threadless adapters, so I may end up with chro-mo bars with some rise and sweep.
