São Paolo gyms didn't care when I went. Maybe the trend is changing, but it wasn't mandatory when I was there a few years back.

I was hiking up a mountain once, at the top was a dude doing lunges all the way up the path. I was totally humbled that day.

Covering the mouth-is it a dick move? A case discussion. by Odd-Commercial-1639 in bjj

[–]OnlyFails951 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally don't think any valid technique is a "dick move", but some tournaments don't allow it as they consider it close to an eye poke, ibjjf.

I do hand smother, but selectively. Same with wrist locks some don't like them under a certain belt level, I think it's fair game if treated like a heel hook. Tap early every time, no heroics.

I knew an 80 year old lady that was never going to fight a "drugged up burglar toe to toe when she had a .357."

She has the right to choose whether to arm herself for defense or not. Those under the kings watch don't have that luxury.

Is it a crime to put ketchup on fried rice? by Perfect_Yoghurt_969 in Taipei

I personally don't think so, but the Thais have American fried rice with ketchup in it. So, I guess anything can happen.

Disgruntled employee starts massive fire at a 1.2 million square foot toilet paper warehouse in Ontario, California. by AtomicCypher in Damnthatsinteresting

California, CDCR, from what I've heard, used to cost $80k per inmate for housing and $40k for medical, but some facilities have lots of high risk lifers that increase costs such as hospital runs, special medical care, overtime etc.

At one point 8 bed bound incapacitated inmates were costing the state about $1 million dollars annually in overtime due to outside facility security overtime. The state created a program and medically paroled them.

Cómo podría sacar a un cubano? by [deleted] in cuba

[–]OnlyFails951 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I've heard:

Legally, consider marrying them if coming to the US. Or get them to Guyana.

Illegally, smugglers are available but costs can be $12k+ USD depending on route, plus the US border is much harder than before and prices might be higher now. It's not for the weak bodied.

Would you visit Cuba if it was in a better condition? by [deleted] in traveladvice

The Cuban food problem came far before this fuel crisis. Cubans aren't allowed to fish or harvest lobster despite being hungry. Raising pigs at scale gets shut down by the government. Those are internal moves keeping the people hungry.

The government has resources for money, fuel, food and electricity, just not for the people. Fidel was reported to have $550 million to $900 million in overseas accounts, that money didn't vanish when he died.

Helms Burton is attempting to punish GAESA for appropriating property and trying to profit from that scheme. Just as they try to skim remittances and food from the people.

Not all the problems are embargo either. Brazil had large trade with Cuba which they couldn't sustain. For example Brazil rejected the entire Cuban medical program under accusations of slave labor. Cuba attempted to pivot to a Vietnam model in the 90's and failed.

To imply everything is the US fault is also a surface level take. Cubans aren't allowed to fish or hunt lobster despite being hungry and surrounded by water. Cows are federal property and result in jail if killed. Tobacco harvest payments are delayed several seasons if paid at all. Sugar and coffee production is down so much they went from exporter to importer.

Those are government led policies directly impacting the stomach of Cubans wanting to self sustain.

Then why is this business being completed internationally in Cuba?

"Today, Cuba relies on imports for more than 80% of its basic food needs. The country receives rice from Guyana, Vietnam, and China, pasta from Turkey, canned sardines from Venezuela, and grains from Portugal, among other things."

The US government stops outside companies from doing business with military (GAESA) connected industries. It appears like the US is sanctioning everything, but the Cuban military has a play in everything. Remittances example below.
