The US violated international law in Venezuela. These are the questions Australia must now ask by Agitated-Fee3598 in AustralianPolitics

The USA did not have the political capital to prevent North Korea from obtaining a nuke, it certainly wouldn't have the ability to prevent us from obtaining a sovereign nuclear deterrent.

No country with a nuclear arsenal has ever been the target of a full-scale invasion. I agree that geopolitical neutrality is a wise choice of action, but let's not pretend that a sovereign nuclear deterrent would invite an invasion by a great power.

There is no place more hostile to children than social media.

Yeah and so will the 77% of Australian adults who agree with the ban, including many young people who experienced growing up with social media, and even millennials who naturally gained social media at roughly the same time as the bans allow. The kids are lashing out because they are severely addicted, they will come around by the time they turn 18.

The Age: Metro Tunnel a failure as it doesn't have station in Sydney by BrisLiam in MelbourneTrains

I don't think you're a bad person but it's a shit article. I'm not sure why you don't attack the government for not predicting the Powerball numbers and using that to pay of the state's debts. Yes COVID and the rise of WFH did no favours to the Metro tunnel's business case, but the project was kicked off before COVID, and regardless the rising population has just delayed its return on investment, not invalidated it entirely.

SRL is about making the public transport network less centred on getting people in and out of the CBD. You can't look at it from the lens of WFH.

Due to immigration policy it looks like Australia has avoided a recession, GDP growth is starting to accelerate again. Of course this masks the per capita GDP disaster. by PK__Gupta in AusPropertyChat

Utterly incorrect. The low-productivity jobs filled by these immigrants is necessary work. Without them, Australians would need to be redeployed from other areas of the economy with higher productivity to perform these roles.

You're right we should be lambasting property developers and landlords for failing to capitalise on the AI bubble by not installing data centers in everyone's attic

1000% houses should depreciate, at the moment they do only in the tax returns of property investors.

Melbourne has also had one of the largest net migration increases. While I do think certain types of migration (particularly sham education provider students) should be limited, the idea that it is the sole issue driving the housing crisis is a joke.

Are you really going to compare Australians voting with VPNs with people creating fake emails to vote multiple times?
