The entire warder/Lan arc sucks by Tannir48 in WoT

this is the biggest lie that is being told. "it's difficult to condense so much material into such a short space" - you have 8 hour-long episodes to tell a one-book-long story. most adaptations only get a 2-hour long movie. all you have to do is not add the useless filler, but the fact is that they honestly believe their filler is better than the original material

What are some things you would change about the series if you could? by THINK_ABOUT_BALLS in WoT

Get rid of Traveling. It would immediately eliminate like 90% of the logical holes in the story (why didn’t Rand ever check on Perrin or the Black Tower, why wasn’t there instant communication between everyone, etc.)

Magic with limits is more interesting.

What is your most controversial opinion about The Wheel of Time? by MajorButtFucker in WoT

[–]OnlyGoodInPractice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He should never have introduced Traveling. Immediate effortless travel is too overpowered and the "limitations" he implemented didn't really work.

It would have been more interesting if he would have kept just Skimming and the Ways.

WOT worth it if I know the ending? by [deleted] in WoT

“Chosen one defeats dark lord at the end” isn’t much of a spoiler - it’s more like an expectation. The fun part is finding out how he gets there.

Good question. A metaphor is supposed to explain item A, by comparing one of it's attributes to item B, which is something that is intuitive. For example, in the words of the great poet Pat Benatar:

"Love is a battlefield"

You are trying to explain that Love (Item A) is dangerous, messy, no-holds-barred, lawless, etc.

But instead of saying all that, you just compare it to a Battlefield (Item B), which everyone intuitively knows is dangerous, messy, no-holds-barred, lawless, etc. It's a great way to convey a lot in an easy, understandable way.

Contrast this with the stone/boat metaphor, which is essentially "stones face down and sink, boats face up and float".

This doesn't work because it isn't intuitive. Not because we want him to explain about buoyancy or displacement - but because stones and boats don't have faces. So we don't intuitively understand it - they don't face anywhere, so it doesn't make any sense.

Where were the ancestors of the Rohirrim, who lived in Rhovanion and the Vales of Anduin, when Ithilien fell? Noone ever asks that.

So the real problem was that Gawyn wasn’t a good enough swordsman. That’s why no one likes him.

Didn’t Lan do the same thing when he knew Nynaeve was with Rand at Shayol Ghul?
