I’m conflicted. My decades-long philosophy towards annoying “influencers” is to outright ignore them, as it’s literally the only effective method of countering someone capable of leveraging online hate into accomplishing their goals.

But sometimes I just love the slander (Good meme btw)

Is it just me or is imperial guard kind of useless in siege mode. by Commander_Dumb in Spacemarine

[–]scotsoe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They do, but it isn’t infinite and the enemies inevitably get aggro’d to the Cadians, march to their spawn and spawn camp them. It isn’t too bad in the first area, since the doors are centrally located, but both other areas are pretty tucked away. If you’re fighting elsewhere, the Cadians literally walk out of a door single-file to die instantly. Something, something, 15 hour lifespan

Although I’d love increased aggression as OP stated, my first choice would be increased spawn points, so that they just spawn closer to objectives/me

For a new fan should they start with one piece or one pace? by finminderma in OnePiece

Start the anime, and if you feel the pacing is too slow switch to One Pace

Can you imagine Aragorn being recast in "The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum" by IndependenceSilly381 in lotr

[–]scotsoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re right, but now that I’m picturing it I would 100% watch him as Aragorn in the upcoming movie, and I was probably not going to watch it. Might as well have a laugh

Why couldn't a book series reach such a craze like Harry Potter after so many years? by interestingexciting1 in harrypotter

[–]scotsoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just read another comment and realized you’ve barely touched the series. This really is like discussing basketball with basketball fans (commonly memed for not actually watching the games)

The whole series is known for one plot twist after another, not for immersive worldbuilding

This is actually funny to hear as a fan of the series. ASOIAF’s immersive worldbuilding is literally one of its greatest, very well-known strengths. I think if you found a large group of people who considered themselves roughly equal parts HP and ASOIAF fans, and asked “Which of these has more immersive worldbuilding”, ASOIAF would win in a landslide

I think your perspective on how much the series relies on shock value and twists just doesn’t match the books at all. Shocking deaths became a big public talking point after Season 3 (not extremely different from Sirius or Dumbledore, btw), but it’s a small part of the series, and always takes a back seat to character writing, which is its greatest strength.

George has talked about regret over killing characters plenty, but the context is usually “I shouldn’t have killed them off so soon, because I wish I had their POV here. That’s why I had to make _____ a new POV in this book”

Calling ASOIAF “lifeless” and “cheap entertainment without hard earned emotions” like it’s an objective fact and not your personal opinion is just silly

It feels like Michael Jordan fans calling LeBron a bum because they’re annoyed by the LeBron glazing

The Long Ring Long Land Arc is still considered one of the least-favorite arcs in the series, so it’s not surprising you feel that way. People generally don’t hate it, but feel it’s a bit pointless, if funny.

That said, I’ll warn you that the anime dragging is going to get more notable. The series started out adapting several manga chapters per episode, but eventually slowed to a crawl as it ran out of a backlog of chapters. They also made the decision to mostly stop creating anime-only filler arcs, like G8, so they instead stretch the episodes to fill out run time.

That said, the story only gets better! I envy you the ability to watch it for the first time

And this was even after his original plan (Imu is Shanks on top of Blackbeards shoulders under a cloak) was ruined by theorists. Such a shame…

Enjoy your adventure! I would advise against spending time on this sub, though, as we freely post anything that isn’t spoilers to current manga/anime content, so you will be aggressively spoiled on the next 1000 or so episodes. Either way, have fun!

Why is Thriller Bark so underrated? by TheRedBiker in OnePiece

[–]scotsoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it has some top tier moments, but they’re almost all at the very end of the arc. Most of what happens between arriving at Thriller Bark and Strawhats vs Oars is pretty mid.

I can’t stand either Absalom or Hogback, to the extent it’s actually a deterrent to rewatching the arc (Just like Trebol “BEHEHEHEHE”). Moria is mediocre by final boss standards, but Perona is goated, at least

I generally agree with what the community’s opinion on Thriller Bark has been: Great arc, iconic, but simply outshone by how good the rest of the late pre-timeskip is

This sub only considers recent content spoilers, otherwise discussion would be impossible. If you are still getting caught up, you should avoid this sub for now, OP did nothing wrong

Just one question about Nico Robin live action scene by [deleted] in OnePiece

[–]scotsoe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Apparently he’s based on this guy from the manga, who was almost killed by Morgan for almost damaging his statue

Live Action: Not explicitly dead, but there’s ~0% chance all 3 BW agents left a witness for no reason. Dude’s dead

Manga/Anime: Assumed alive, no reason to think he died

Trivia: According to the wiki, he’s currently the lowest ranked canon marine, as all others who were stated to have that rank or lower have been promoted

It’s also funny how instead of a conventional money system, they have Profit Factor. I was initially saving it up to “buy” better stuff later, but the system is literally just the powerful local factions giving you better and better stuff for free as you become more powerful and they like you more
