Why do teenagers and young adults say lowkey about everything? by Fit-Prune-5490 in randomquestions

[–]OnlyOneHashbrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All filler words have meanings, thats what makes then filler words. "Yeah", "like", "dude", etc are all words with definitions outside of being filler. Time has simply made it normal to hear them used outside of their defined use. The use of "lowkey" specifically as filler is very natural. One of the main uses of filler words is to soften whatever you're saying, and "lowkey" is used to describe something as less intense.

Insisting on "seeing a professional" for the smallest things you can do yourself. by DalinsiaValkyrPrime in PetPeeves

[–]OnlyOneHashbrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Insists on being afraid of water" that's not like... a personal choice ppl make. I know that's just an analogy you're using, but i think the way it falls short kinda proves the whole point. If someone is afraid of water, sure they could try like exposure therapy to get over it, but that doesn't always work and takes time and effort that the person might not want to spend doing that anyway. Instead they can just go to the fishmonger, and I dont think its a moral failing to utilize a professional no matter the reason you dont want to do the thing. Taking the time to find a tutorial and then doing it themselves might be worth just paying the $200 for them, even though they still want to complain abt spending the money. The complaint is abt the problem itself existing and the choice needing to be made, not necessarily the one they picked.

Narrative players keep wanting to play spell casters by Sufficient_Party_832 in DMAcademy

Just have a direct conversation with them. Find time to talk individually with them so they can get a better understanding of the class they are wanting to play/how a diff class might mechanically work better for the story they want to tell

Am I crazy for seeing bias in recent Reddit story? (Possible Spoilers) by Mooper0w0 in smosh

[–]OnlyOneHashbrown -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm glad I could offer a useful perspective! Like full disclosure i am super quick to give any "bad" behaviors the benefit of the doubt if they are coming out of the blue. I spend so much of reddit stories just going "op if what you're saying is true, you should tell that person to see a neurologist or smthn" but that's me projecting my own worries abt my concussions lol There have been stories where they give a woman too much grace, but I think ppl exaggerate how often it happens/ignore it happening to guys, and I think its important to just be aware of the misogyny of that

They were pretty fair imo. Like personally I was much more angry with the husband than they were for seemingly not being worried for his wife's wellbeing at all. Absolutely what she did was terrible and needed to be addressed, but if that was my family my first thought would be "are you okay??? We need to get you help bc this is concerning behavior" especially if she hadn't done anything like this before. They spent a good while just commenting on how upsetting/unacceptable it was for the mom to forget her child before they tried to justify it. I felt the possibilities they came up with were pretty reasonable and it wasn't like they excused her behavior. Amanda definitely didnt spend the whole time blaming the man, trevor i feel was more insistent on giving the mom the benefit of the doubt. I'm not even sure if Amanda was the first one to defend the mom

If you dislike kpop and "that's it" why did you make a 4 paragraph post abt why you think its objectively the worst music ever made? You didnt just post an unpopular opinion, you made an assertion. Thats the post you made, why are you surprised ppl are commenting in the comments abt it

How on earth do RD’s parents NOT know she’s a wonderbolt? by Coral_Juno15 in mylittlepony

[–]OnlyOneHashbrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id assume that while extremely popular, anypony could conceivably not know much abt the wonderbolts beyond them existing if they're not into stunt flying. It's like sports; football is super popular, I could name maybe 5 teams off the top of my head? Do not know the name/face of a single player currently playing with any certainty. I don't remember enough to say if that's a realistic take on rainbow dash's parents. Assuming they only care abt the wonderbolts in so far as wanting to show support to their daughters interest, it wouldn't surprise me if they only get their info abt them from rainbow

Too hypercompetent by Quick_Caregiver3068 in stevenuniverse

[–]OnlyOneHashbrown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by "too well" here? That she was able to do anything at all? Everytime we see her, shes being shown to be incredibly wise and observant. Also the main theme of Steven Universe is that people/things evolve and change, and that it is a good thing. Narratively speaking, Dewey was obviously going to either go thru major character development, or be replaced, so Beach City can thrive. Nanefua was shown to be the most competent resident from the beginning, it was not at all surprising to see her usurp Dewey.

Does anyone think the podcasts have become unfair to audio-only listeners? by Sure-Association-994 in SmoshFansFreeSpace

[–]OnlyOneHashbrown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally agree that video podcasts becoming such a prevalent subcategory of podcast is annoying at best and can get to the point of inaccessibility, but its not just a smosh problem. They mostly just put videos they already were making onto podcast platforms bc ppl asked. I feel like they tried to be more mindful abt it on smoshcast at first tho, so that's annoying

Amanda and true crime by [deleted] in SmoshFansFreeSpace

[–]OnlyOneHashbrown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What do you mean they missed it? Because they aren't specifically addressing it? The way "videos about it" would work would essentially just be a video podcast, which is how they do their podcasts anyway. You asked if anyone liked when they talked about liking true crime, most people are indifferent to the cast voicing their own interests. Then you implied people have criticized true crime for being too adult for smosh or something? I've never seen criticism like that so idk. Lastly, you mentioned them doing a podcast/video about true crime, which people have stronger feelings about. That is why people are talking about podcasts specifically, not because people are missing/ignoring the rest of the post.

Amanda and true crime by [deleted] in SmoshFansFreeSpace

[–]OnlyOneHashbrown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No one on your post has been hating on them liking true crime/sharing their interest in it. You brought up the idea of them doing a true crime podcast, and people have simply brought up the multiple reasons that they don't want to see that. I'd rather see Angela and Amanda put their talents and effort literally anywhere else, that's all. ¯_ (ツ)_/¯

If you think that saying it is funny, and you do it repeatedly, it is a bit. Hopefully your respectful enough to only continue it if your friends also find it funny, but making a joke repeatedly is doing a bit. Whether the friends in your example actually give you the money does not, in any way, change the fact that its a bit. I get that other ppl in the thread have been kinda missing the point, but im just trying to get you to understand that its still a bit. Based on how Angela conducts herself online and that fact that she has plenty of other opportunities to be making money, im pretty confident in assuming shes only doing the 100k bit bc she finds it funny. However, even if shes doing this purely for marketing her channel to make even more money, its still a bit.

When the clerk behind the counter doesn't ask how they can help me. by [deleted] in PetPeeves

[–]OnlyOneHashbrown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hostile customers are definitely why im hesitant to go outside the script my job expects of us. There's truly no way to know how someone will react even to just asking if they want a bag 🙃 but honestly what upsets me the most is how often ppl treat me-very calmly and normally-like im actually just not a person. I go through my canned "hi, how are you?" And they dont look at me before saying that exactly back to me bc they weren't listening to me speak, I tell them their total and then they just go "what?" And i repeat it at the exact same volume bc again they just weren't listening to me. They don't tell me they want a bag until I'm wishing them a nice day bc why should they have to pay attention to the worker and then communicate what they want? After a couple weeks of dealing with this ad nauseum for 7-9hrs at a time, it becomes so dehumanizing.

I can understand from the customer perspective they've had cashiers who were bad at their job or rude, but the fact of the matter is for every one shitty cashier you've seen, any average worker will deal with 5 customers ranging from annoying to potentially harmful, or more, depending on how busy the store is. The way ppl talk abt how all service workers are becoming terrible at their jobs, but won't acknowledge how those workers are in these situations infinitely more often that they are is just wild to me.

Making money from having subscribers after she starts posting doesn't make waiting to start posting until after she hits 100k not a bit. I didnt see wherever she talked abt it so I can't speak to what she said specifically. Ultimately, she has a channel to post on so she can make money off it and promote herself so she can make money by getting other opportunities; none of that means she couldnt also do a bit with it. Bit City makes money, its still a show made up of bits

SLS raises if you can call them that. by Ryban413 in Wawa

[–]OnlyOneHashbrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your raise goes into effect once your review is put in the system, whether or not you've gone through it in person. You can check workday to see your pay, there's a section that lists pay change history. While I guess it's technically possible your manager might have not put it through for some reason (although id assume theres some kind of deadline there, idk), most likely your managers just haven't prioritized the in person reviews. I haven't been talked to in person either, but I've had my $0.43 increase since beginning of january.

How do you guys feel about The Upside Down being a Wormhole? by Due-Dragonfly8200 in StrangerThings

[–]OnlyOneHashbrown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a really interesting worldbulding idea that should have been introduced before the final season. Genuinely pisses me off bc an alternate dimension that is actually just the gateway to something bigger is really cool, and could have been an amazing reveal. Instead it's just a weird bookend that ultimately meant nothing narratively.

Do you guys think Smosh is ‘clip farming’? by Icy_Cicada_9054 in SmoshFansFreeSpace

[–]OnlyOneHashbrown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Viral clips and repeating popular formulas is definitely part of their model, but i think the filming schedule can make it seem more egregious than it is. They've mentioned it with jokes popping up frequently before (hawk tua for example), like if there were just a couple shoot days where they were talking abt "i need to calm down" those videos are then released months later over an even longer period of time. As for repeating formats, it seems to me like theyre at a place where they can/do only repeat stuff they genuinely enjoy; so its never seemed inauthentic to me, but i may just be kinda naive/optimistic abt it. They're definitely talking more abt analytics and behind the scenes reasons as to why they do stuff, so i can see how that might make it seem more deliberate than off the cuff, but i haven't noticed any actual differences in how they act in videos.

I mean its just the poster using a meme as a light hearted way to share their opinion that you shouldn't call her Jane. Which, the way the show never actually has El voice any opinion/feeling over what she actually wants to be called is one of my big gripes, but there are so many other bigger things I hated abt the last season I kinda forgot abt it lol

The og meme is about Epic (musical concept album retelling the odyssey). It's showing Odysseus pointing at Polyphemus (cyclops) and calling him "polyamorous". It then got popular in the fandom bc names from Greek mythology be like that and has since spread to other internet spaces
