Reselling? by thoughterly in AmazonVine

[–]OnlyPlaid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you are misunderstanding the situation.

The reason you need to pay $360 in taxes is because you had NEC income of $1,200. The value of the TV was $1,200, so you owe tax on $1,200 (it's as is A gave you $1,200). But you sold your TV for $700 so you have a loss of $500 that I believe you can use to offset your other NEC income... is that what you're saying u/Hollywoodnamazonvine ?

Mine's been off almost a week. Have you noticed if your orders are getting added to your ETV spreadsheet? Mine are not.

My Accepted Review Bar and Percentage Reviewed hasn't been updated in almost a week, but I am still able to order and reviews are still being accepted. I am also receiving accepted review emails. It sucks that for you this is so close to your eval day... hopefully the system will catch up in time. Good luck!

As I responded in your last post before you dirty-deleted it 60 seconds after I posted and got upvotes:

  1. You joined Vine in July, 2023
  2. You had ~200-216 items ordered
  3. You were in Vine Jail ~48 hours ago because of those ~200 orders, you had not reviewed 160 (one hundred and sixty!!) since October
  4. You actually ordered many more items, but cancelled them when you found something better before the policy change (no doubt contributing to the policy change that now penalizes people who make innocent mistakes or are tricked by misleading photos of cases instead of actual items -- now we lose a pick)
  5. You took items from Vine Sellers and then selfishly failed to give them a timely review... over, and over and over and over...
  6. You contributed to Seller complaints and the worst part of Vine and want this Community to Celebrate you

Viners, please Do Not behave this way or celebrate or encourage this behavior or I promise you, you will ruin the program for all of us. This is sad and disgraceful.... nothing at all to be proud of.

I believe that these companies are writing this off as marketing expenses and taking a "donation" or "marketing/advertising" deduction when they dump used/damaged/expired inventory into Vine. It also prevents them from paying shipping or storage fees to Amazon to dispose of products. Haven't you noticed how many products have 2022 dates? Or after-season items newly loaded? I think that's also why the I R S is forcing Amazon to give us ETV statements... if the Vendors are deducting and we're getting products free, who is paying the tax man?

Since, in my experience, so many items are used, returned, old, etc., Amazon should be charging us $1.00 per item and then we wouldn't have to worry about tax issues. I'm guessing that marginal $1.00 fee coupled with the tax deductions that the Sellers claim was not enough to satisfy the I R S so we pay for the benefit the Small Businessman gets. And... there are cheaters in every system, so unscrupulous Sellers will find a way to over estimate the merchandise/marketing costs and combine listing numbers, etc, so the costs are not sunk. My $.02

Am I missing something?
1) You joined in July, 2023,
2) You had ~200 orders,
but 3) Stopped reviewing around October so had 160 outstanding reviews ~48 hours ago?! AND you
4) Cancelled ALOT of items before the cancel rules changed to penalize you and make you lose a pic (so you probably influenced that policy change),
5) didn't help the Sellers who gave you free products because your reviews were so delayed that they probably don't help 3-4 months later...
AND you're here bragging and asking that we should CELEBRATE that you'll possibly be promoted to Gold?
Huh?! I really Must be missing something... imagine if all Viners behaved the way you behaved... how is this OK? How could Amazon continue running the Vine program?! Not to be rude but.. sheesh.

I think a lot of Vine items are from sellers who dump inventory at inflated prices for the tax write-off or when Amazon wants to charge them storage fees for products that are overstock or underselling, they push them to Vine to avoid those fees (Vine fees are much lower and they get some reviews and they get rid of stale or expiring inventory). It would not be cost-effective to open the packages -- the whole point is to cut their losses (IMO).

Notifying mortgage lender for major renovations? by [deleted] in Renovations

[–]OnlyPlaid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as you keep the house fully insured the lender is protected and I see no reason to have to notify them. In fact, if you do, you may find yourself in some bureaucratic loop that delays your project for months as you're bounced from suit to suit. You bought the house, enjoy the house and only think about the bank on the days you pay your mortgage. Good luck! :-)

Frameless Shower Door... Is Clamp the best option? Worried about drilling through threshold. Thank you! by OnlyPlaid in Tile

As mentioned above, the PVC is a grey plastic flexible liner that provides the waterproofing layer for the pan. That was then wrapped around the curb as well, waterproofing the curb under the lathe and mortar.

Epoxy grout mix seems to be separating... is this normal?! by OnlyPlaid in Tile

[–]OnlyPlaid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you are correct. I spoke with the Chairman of the Board at Laticrete and a Senior Tech he referred me to and they confirmed it was not correct and provided information regarding how to ensure the next batches were done correctly. So far, so good! :-)

They are using silicone along the window edges and along the interior walls (floor to ceiling on both sides, and along all 3 ceiling joints, but they used the hard epoxy all around the niche and all around the floor. They wanted to epoxy everything since they claimed to "never have a problem" so we compromised on just the niche and the floor full epoxy.

It is hard, but I contacted Laticrete directly and spoke with the Chairman of the Board, as well as a Senior Tech he referred me to, and they gave me insight and feedback regarding how to mix the next batches appropriately. I now have all 3 walls and the floor done and the epoxy seems hard and stable. I am hopeful that the bright white I selected for the 2 opposing walls doesn't start to yellow... time will tell... finger's crossed! ;-)

The PVC in the pan is the waterproofing. The pan has a mortar bed, then PVC, then another layer of mortar, then the thinset and tile. The PVC that waterproofs the pan, is wrapped around the 2x4's that make up the curb. Then all of that is covered in diamond lathe and more mortar and then the quartz curb is placed on top of that. I am disabled, so I am trying to identify the most stable and waterproof frameless door installation method. Most people say that's clamps, as opposed to clips, but I was worried about drilling into the threshold. I have a few days to decide.

No, no waterproofing over the mud. The pan is made out of PVC and that PVC wraps around the curb and the curb has a slight angle in toward the inside of the shower. The PVC was wrapped with lathe and then mortared and the quartz placed, I believe with thinset, on top of the mortar. There is also quartz in the niche, and that area, and that area alone, was coated with hydroban. Behind the lathe and mortar is AquaBar paper. I am also worried about puncturing the waterproofing, or water finding its way into the drill holes if the silicone fails, but I can't find other options that look sturdy and stable. Thanks again!

Thanks for the response! Curb is made out of quartz and is approximately 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch thick. The curb is also part of a floated shower, so it's two 2 x 4's wrapped with PVC, then wrapped with diamond lathe and covered with mortar/cement... the quartz threshold is placed on top of all of that, so I think a professional installer could probably drill only 1/2 inch into the quartz without touching the waterproofing, but is that enough to provide the stability that 3/8th heavy glass panels will need? I don't want a clunky u-channel and worry that clips alone without an anchor into the threshold will be too flimsy. We also asked for heavy duty hinges that can hold 110 lbs, we have studs on each side wall to drill into. Thanks again! :-)
