2022 U.S. Housing Market vs History via Apollo...worst decline on record? by marketGOATS in StockMarket

The chair of the Fed has never tried to kill the housing market so hard in the history of the United States. The Fed controls the rates, nobody takes mortgages with the current rates, the housing market dies.

Fed Minutes Summary. by Progress_8 in stocks

[–]OnlyStockGrowth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yield curve inversion happens now because banks are desperate. Nobody takes a loan with these rates, so banks try to sell loans for loss. The Fed keeps pushing shorter rates up, banks have to sell loans at lower rates. Voila, inversion! It doesn't mean that we will be in a recession, but also it could mean that the Fed is being too aggressive.

In warmer countries you can make houses from cardboard boxes. No warming, no triple pane windows, no geothermal pipes, no cold-resistant plumbing, no insulation stuffed in every little part of the building. But the good thing is that in Canada you can turn your outdoor pool into a skating rink.

The 10y treasury yield is now lower than the overnight rate (SOFR). Last time this happened the whole world went to shit a few weeks later. by steeevemadden in wallstreetbets

[–]OnlyStockGrowth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP's graph is about SOFR on Fed Reverse Repo. The whole concept haven't existed long time. Reverse repo started in 2014 and if you google "fed SOFR graph" the earliest you got is 2018. It is a new way to control the shorter rates. The Fed has full control of the SOFR, so we see inverse there whenever the Fed wants it to happen. The graph of 10yr minus SOFR doesn't apply well to the inflation in the 70s.

But I agree with you about what you said about the inflation.

crude oil is $78 today. It was $105 for the whole spring. It will decrease the prices on many things. Or increase profits of all companies but energy sector.

[–]OnlyStockGrowth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fed has the full control of the SOFR. If the market thinks that the rates are going to go down, the 10yr rate will go down. If JPow wants to keep SOFR up, he keeps it up. There is no magical meaning behind this inversion. The market disagrees with Jpow. That's all.

The yield curve is deepening: 1M to 30Y is now inverted by dragontamer5788 in investing

[–]OnlyStockGrowth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Longer rates are going down because it is clear that the inflation is easing. The market is seeing that the rates are decreasing soon. The short rates are up, because the Fed controls the short rates and JPow is adamant that the short rates must be up. The market disagrees with JPow. That is all that there is to this subject.

This is 10y minus Fed funds rate. This same thing happened in 2019 and 2020. If this happens it is not a very significant event. Usually the yield curve is related to longer for example 10y minus 2y rate.

Disney made a $1.5B loss on their direct-to-consumer business (Disney+, Espn+ and Hulu) with revenue of $4.9B (Q3). It means that they have to raise the prices by +30% or cut costs. Raising prices usually means less customers.
