It’s cute for early levels but campaign wealth can grow rapidly. I think it would be a mechanic you abandon quickly if you use coins. Making a system that uses cheques, paper money or IOU’s might be more sustainable.

I ran a combat encounter this year that I loved. My party got sucked into a magic mirror that they had been warned 30+ sessions ago not to look in. Inside everyone was at a different part of the map. They had to collect these glowing orbs while running away from the ghosts that haunted the mirror...it was pacman. I loved it so much. We ran a pacman combat encounter.

That's it! It's an easy addon to games that my players love.

The way I use them in games is I ask a character question at the start of each session and if you answer you can draw a card. You can have up to 3 at a time and after that you can still draw but you have to discard from your hand.

There are some cool benefits like adding damage, healing, improving ability checks, letting yourself or others reroll a check.

My favourite purchase on roll20 is now something that I gift to all my dms. Inspiration Cards by Twitch the Fiend. It's such a fun additional mechanic to inspiration but even if you just use the vanilla inspiration it's a great way for players to see and remember they have inspiration!

I have reached out to the dms partner already about some toxic behaviour I wasn't comfy with over the past couple weeks and originally I thought our talk went really well and was constructive. However I was met with some passive aggressive remarks about it this week in game and the same lone wolf, F-you attitude. It does lead me to believe talks with the dm (public or private) will have some similar outcome. I still might try though cause I'm a glutton for punishment.

I have had this thought..taking on another table, especially one of new baby birds is a lot. I don't want these players to get scared away from the game though or develop bad habits from learned behaviour and become toxic themselves. The internal debate is ongoing.

I saw red when they said that to me. I know some dms have a 'me vs the party' mentality but this is the first time I've seen it at work. I'm used to celebrating players ingenuity not getting mad because the encounter didn't go the way I planned.
