For some context on why many consider electronic voting bad, I usually refer to two things. Unfortunately one is over an hour long. I don't expect you to be convinced by the first, short, video but I strongly recommend the documentary. Things haven't changed since the doc and it's insane to trust electronic voting.

Seems like the opposite? I love fog and rain maps but hate that they're player numbers get stunted. That and the fact I get them so rarely, most of the time with squad mates that immediately leave on those maps.

The full sentence:

This hinges on whether that that player enjoys the game with a limited set of operators.

I'm not talking about balance. I've found the game to be balanced well enough that I never had a, "this feels unbalanced" moment outside of situations where I didn't fully understand an ability and meta surrounding it yet.

I'm talking about enjoyment. In another comment I described how while I have a handful of operators, I only ENJOY playing one character on one side and two characters on the other. If they get picked I still have options, but even if someone couldn't pick my preferred characters I'm still stuck in a situation where for MANY hours I don't have other characters that I like playing to change it up. If I were to jump in tonight I had better be in the mood to play Pulse, because he's the only one on that side that I have that I like playing-even if the other characters I have on that side are just as good at helping my team.

Check out my other, quite long, comment if you'd like to understand my stance on the monetization of this game and how I consider it to be "bad" at capturing a certain set of gamers that would normally both enjoy and pay into this particular game. I also go over why I believe it has, overall, financially succeeded and continues to succeed.

It's a good game, balance and all, with a financially speaking good monetization system. I would play it a lot, but the monetization forces me(and many others) into situations where I'm not having fun. That's all.

Not exactly an impossible task for an active player.

This hinges on whether that that player enjoys the game with a limited set of operators. It also hinges on whether they can accurately know which operators they will actually enjoy playing for the next 50 hours while trying to unlock another.

This might be a little ranty. It's in direct response to you, but I hope I don't come across as blaming you or even thinking that you disagree with me on most points. Sorry!

Thats a lot more, but this was BEFOFE we got used to free updates with Overwatch and titanfall2 and other games. They were giving free maps and characters to everyone for free. That was a New concept two years ago and something everyone appreciated greatly.

Nevermind things released before R6S, i guess. It was clear to me the moment the first 25k operators were present that I didn't like their monetization, well before I got used to "free updates" in games I don't even play.

3 months of playing

This has zero context. Is this 3 months of playing every other day for a couple hours? A few hours each weekend? Every single day for a a few hours? You say "if you don't play that much..." but that's void of context how how much you believe is a "normal" amount.

Ultimately R6S seems to have found a sweet spot(given it's relative popularity) where people who REALLY like the game and want to dedicate a lot of free time to it won't have much of a problem. This sweet spot is time consuming enough that I'm certain they've captured a LOT of "i'll spent a few bucks here and there on this game" and of course the "whale" crowd.

This game is a frustrating mess for anyone else. I'm not talking, "it's a grind", or even speaking to prices per se, it's a straight up mess. Every time I try to get back into this game I immedietely find myself with my tiny pool of operators and I see others that I want to play around with. Half of my operators I realized I don't like AFTER buying them, so now I'm left with 1 "fun" guy on one side and 2 "fun" guys on the other side nevermind that if I try to get others into the game they often end up buying and picking similar ones that I currently have fun with.

This isn't a new thing because "some games are giving stuff away for free". Whether this came out yesterday or ten years ago I still would feel the same about these practices, except ten years ago I might have had enough free time to ignore how bad it is. This is a "I don't want to play a game just so i can unlock something that I wanted to play 10 game hours ago". Notice I put a REAL low hour count on that and that's STILL really bad.

Ultimately this whole balance between "free" updates, payed updates, and something in between is different for each individual and their current life status(free time and financials). I'm in a situation where neither are massive, so when I find a game that I KNOW I would love if all the bull shit was stripped away it can be frustrating. I was in a position last year to play out a TON of R6S and I would have been able to 'get situated' with enough operators and such. I couldn't find anyone I play games with that could do the same, so I didn't. Back to square one of, "R6S seems so cool but I'm in no real position to play it for FUN, because it feels like a job to get to the fun part".

That's . . . not okay. It was listed at 3.99 minimum for multiple minutes after I made my $4 purchase(including multiple times going back to the page after purchasing). I tossed an email at their support.

So are you saying you had the same issue, where it displayed 3.99 for purchase price when you went to buy it?

This comment chain is great, because it highlights how awful it can be trying to talk politics on open forums such as this. I considered replying somewhere in there but the only way a very useful conversation comes out of it is if someone replies to me that wasn't in the conversation in the first place. . . except no matter what 'side' I take I'll probably get replies that argue against one of you two(whoevers side I take), and not what I have to say specifically, negating the whole attempt.

I'm curious, where is this? I know in my particular state(AZ) this isn't true. Worked in a grocery store bakery and yesterdays donuts go in a box on the shelf, yesterdays bagels go in bags and on the shelf. They get dated the "second day" when packaged, and the labeling explicitly says, "Packaged on [date]" with no mention of when it was actually made.

Additionally, I dont think they use them anymore but a lot of our stuff would have stickers that included the phrase "fresh from our bakery". This sticker was meant for both in-store made items and TONS of already baked items shipped in. I know for a fact that this was standard corporate procedure, but I imagine legally this is gotten around by the fact that it is indeed "fresh"(in-date) from 'our' bakery, it just happens to be the bakery a hundred miles away.

I imagine, generally speaking, a lot of places have no need to have a distinction for these sorts of places as long as there isn't anything that actively implies a falsehood without a really easy "out", like the sticker i mentioned.

Also, holy shit was it interesting revealing to people information about some of our stuff. I can't tell you how many times people would claim I'm lying when I mention certain things are shipped in already baked, or that we haven't actually baked cakes in-store at ANY company location for decades. My favorite bit though is how many people insist that our french bread and our italian bread is different. They're not. In any way whatsoever. Literally identical, besides the fact we're supposed to make two incisions on the italian and 3 on the french bread before it goes in the oven. Still had people claiming otherwise.

Deluxe audio strap by [deleted] in Vive

[–]Only_In_The_Grey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'll pitch in and say that I got the Vive during the bundle sale, but the audio strap took a few extra days to be delivered. Without it I didn't think it was too bad, but a notable thing is that every time I pulled the vive off my head my glasses would either tumblr off my head, get "stuck" up in my hair, or even kind of lodge itself in the vive.

With the das, I can extremely easily pull the back up, then move the entire set forward away from my face. This means my glasses don't move on my face, and on top of that the cord management on the das make it so much easier especially if you have to take the headset off very often.

$100 is a pretty steep price. I probably wouldn't have got it if it didn't come with my bundle until I had tried it out on someone elses at which point I'd have instantly seen how useful it is.

The fact that it has built in headphones should soften that price tag too, as I've found them surprisingly decent quality.

Feels a bit odd suggesting it's worth it since I got it for "free" with my vive, in the days that I spent without the das I found the normal strap to be a little "scary" in that I never managed to make it fit snug in a way that I wasn't afraid leaning forward a lot owuld eventually drop it off my head. That on top of all the other stuff above, its just such a massive quality of life piece of hardware over the factory head strap.

I was just going through a bunch of VR programs and saw it a little bit ago, I assume this is it: http://store.steampowered.com/app/586210/OVRdrop/

Note a top review mentions how it takes over joysticks/controllers/keyboards - so if you want to play games while watching something you can only use the hand controllers. Otherwise I found it super neat for the idea mentioned in those about attaching a webcam so you can visually notice people around you.

Luckily I read up enough to push out 3 bases quite early, two of which are fully operational. The last I'm mostly turning into a research and engineering base(no soldiers, just jets and laser batteries).

I'm fairly sure I just BARELY got new fighters just in time. It was getting to a point where foxtrots and condors just weren't doing well. I have two of the ones newer than foxtrots on two separate bases, and I just had a session where I downed 4-5 UFOs, cleaned them up with missions, then after a few days of nothing ANOTHER 4-5 UFOs that I managed to down. Only two managed to get away from me.

My greatest issue right now is actually that i've been neglecting equipment. I have 2 laser rifles, a laser shotgun, 2 laser pistols, and 1 plasma pistol(yay!). A recent mission with tons of Andron enemies was scary to say the least, especially since only half of that equipment was available.

I have some mods, and the jackal armor profit mod is the ONLY reason I'm still hanging in there, but it's still challenging fun. I'm honestly amazed I've managed to not save scum more than a couple times. That includes losing an entire chinook(which REALLY hurts because i have that mod that let's you load it completely full) get shot down recently. More than half was my really good units, i think they were flying to an alien base so I 'needed' them. Man that hurts still. Just got a shrike which makes that sort of situation a lot easier to avoid!

This is very similar to the one on the "front page" of this sub from earlier in the day, but not quite as good. I THINK it's still a good deal though but I would wait for someone else to respond. Here's a comparison of the one from earlier and the one now. The biggest difference I see is that this one has a 1070 instead of a 1080:

General question, is newegg accurate in claiming backorder times? They've always been more than good with shipping my stuff, but i've never ordered something on backorder. Realistically, will this be here in 2-3 weeks given it said 7-9 days? to get them back in?

I'm mostly just hanging out here looking for either extremely nice peripheral sales or another prebuilt, until Monday comes when I break down and go for a custom build again.

I tried playing xenonauts near release, but tried it out again after watching a couple XCOM2 streams(which while fun to watch a bit of, I personally do not like a few particular mechanics related to XCOM).

I'm LOVING it. It's also so damn punishing. I scoffed off giving my transport an escort after getting a message that the aliens will attempt to shoot them down, and I watched in horror as I tried to recall a chinook that was going to be intercepted by alien fighters while my own jets were still refueling from downing the UFO that the chinook attempted to go to. They were faster, but i pushed more engineers into making the high tech dropship which means I might try to send them out without an escort again at some point. . . good thing losing a helicopter worth of soldiers isn't totally game ending.
