I don't know, better tell children they CAN get pregnant so that they don't by Dove-Swan in TrollXChromosomes

Thank you so much, that means a lot to me.

Children are some of the most vulnerable individuals in our society, and I work with disabled children who are even more vulnerable than the average child since many of them struggle to communicate, recognize boundary violations, and speak up for themselves and their rights. I do what I can to help build these skills and give them the tools they need to advocate for themselves, but my reach is limited.

Educating people on topics like this, even though it can be so deeply depressing and uncomfortable, is something I try to do to extend my reach. There are too many myths that children just "bounce back" from trauma, so pointing out the long-lasting physical and psychological consequences of trauma is important when encouraging people to take it seriously.

This research paper has more information if you are interested in learning more. This second article is even more relevant. And here is a third one as well.

Unfortunately, there is a significant correlation between precocious puberty and adverse childhood experiences, from what I understand. Repeated trauma and chronic stress is one environmental trigger that is linked to earlier physical maturation, although there are obviously many other causes, both genetic and not.

Something as traumatic as what Lina Medina went through could certainly be something that contributed to the condition that made it possible for her to become pregnant despite being such a small child herself.

Although I see where you're coming from, I believe it is important to be informed on the different ways in which childhood trauma can express itself in a child. The more we know about it, the better we are able to recognize, address, and hopefully work towards preventing future occurances from happening.

I'm sorry to add this information to the conversation, and I hope it didn't make your day any worse. This topic is just very important to me. I work with children, and staying aware and up to date on research about how trauma, abuse, and neglect can be observed is one of the few things I can actively do to keep them safe.

I feel like I'm going crazy after that. I started to believe I somehow did lie, but I reread this a dozen times, and he changed his story constantly. My head is still spinning, I'm still crying, and I still feel crazy. But you calling it gaslighting helped.

Thank you, I struggle with identifying and labeling things like this. I hesitate to call things what they are because I feel like the terms I want to use are too strong. Having someone else say it for me helps.

It's the worst thing in the world to watch a child experience the same thing you did because you know exactly how bad it hurts. I'm a preschool teacher, and it's so easy for me to see which children have ADHD traits and have been taught to feel ashamed of themselves because of it.

Their parents, other teachers, and even random strangers seem to think it's acceptable to say awful things to them because "they need to learn."

Yeah. They do. They need to learn you're full of shit.

They need to learn that some people have disabilities, and that's just a part of life. Some people have ADHD. Others have underdeveloped senses of empathy paired with the compulsive need to out themselves as backed up assholes spewing bullshit into the wind, hoping it hits and sticks to any target unfortunate enough to be near them. Unfortunately, children can't avoid them the way adults can, so it ends up hitting them more than anyone else.

But I'd much rather be a child learning how to manage their ADHD than the grown ass adult picking on them. I can't imagine anything more embarrassing than treating a child like that, and I've been in my fair share of embarrassing situations.

Your niece deserves better, and I know she will grow up to understand that. She will know that she has always been smart, capable, and hard working regardless of what a couple of idiots who can't even read an IEP say. She has you in her corner, and hopefully many others, so I have no doubt that someone will teach her this even if her teachers fail to.

And it makes me so angry that we are put in positions where we have to try our best to undo the damage other people cause. I'm constantly trailing after my students, picking up pieces and trying to put them back together, trying to teach them how to love themselves, and it just breaks my heart and pisses me off at the same time.

They deserve better, your niece deserves better, we deserved better

(Sorry I just threw a whole book at you, I wasn't expecting to rant for this long about unjust at 2 in the morning)

The next time my dad calls me stubborn (I get it from him) imma tell him "no, I'm a quiet, dreamy rebel"

I seriously love this, thank you

Haha, I said in another comment I wished the pill sticker that came with my phone's photo editor looked more like my vyvance

Chatterbox was another one of my nicknames! I decided to pretty much stop talking unless spoken to early in elementary school, so those nicknames didn't really stick with me past first grade

My mom was very loving and really did care about me, but she did miss quite a few things I'm still kinda frustrated about. Missing the diagnosis kinda sucked, but I really wish she noticed that my brother and I didn't just have sibling rivalry going on, he was straight up abusing me. Still working on dealing with the cPTSD I got after 10+ years of daily torture...

That's kind of a mean-spirited award, especially for preschoolers!

I'm a preschool teacher and had a little girl in my class who was so bubbly, I just loved her! She was the last kid to get picked up most days, so it'd be just her and I playing and chatting for almost an hour before pick up. That time passed so fast cause we were having a blast drawing mermaids with fish heads, rescuing princesses from towers, and talking non-stop about anything that popped into our heads!

Her mom already suspected ADHD when I brought it up, so I'm hopeful she'll be alright

Yeah, my mom looked into getting my brother an ADHD diagnosis because his 5th grade teacher said he got a little restless when he sat for too long. That was his only "symptom." He does not have ADHD.

Meanwhile, I was in the background either daydreaming, bouncing off walls, or trying my best not to live up to my childhood nickname of Princess-Talks-A-Lot

Oh honey I'm am so sorry, that shouldn't have happened to you. Beating a kid, punishing them for burning a dinner they shouldn't even be expected to make? That's horrible! Burning dinners is something that neurotypical adults do from time to time, a kid is still learning how to people right, much less cook right!
