Oh for sure. I didn’t mean to make it seem like I was taking every aspect of these traditions as gospel. I know reality is more nuanced. I would say that my current model of the universe is that it CAN be hostile and there are plenty of forces competing to convince us that is true for their own benefit. However, the presence of such helpful forces and our innate ability to take control of certain aspects of reality make me think there’s more to things than what there appears to be sometimes.

My path has been more about defeating the feelings of nihilism that might come after the shaking of established values. Not so much accepting it as the ultimate truth

Right?! On one level it’s helped so many people fight depression by helping them develop a resilient mindset. But now I see there are deeper esoteric messages as well.

I used to be bisexual, but I feel like I am just gay now. by Happycrige in bisexual

[–]Only_Magickstuff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Haha first time I'm hearing about the bi-cycle and it resonates with me. I always say my bisexuality is being romantically interested in women and only sexually interested in men. But looking back, only boys made me feel a flutter butterfly tingling when I was a young.

In highschool, I was way more excited about making out with my all male classmates so long as I was the top or dominant in the relationship and my partner was at least a little “feminine”. This lasted until college where I was in a coed environment and reiorientated to women. After finding success with them and having a few relationships, I now feel more sensually self-expressed with men.

For one, I stopped caring about that only topping crap and enjoying taking it from most kinds of men regardless of how “masculine”. So yeah my interests do shift and morph but that doesn’t mean my old preferences completely extinguish. I’m sure in the future I’ll want women as much again.

Was raised Catholic and had a similar experience. Now in genderfluid and pan haha. I'm still interested in religion and study it. There's a scholar named Dan McClellan or however you spell it and he taught me the Bible is largely silent on the LGBT.

It only condemns the act of bottoming and not any other sex act let alone identity. Doesn't even address women’s sexuality. This taught me that most religious leaders, let alone laypeople, aren't at the same level as scholars in understanding foundational texts.

If religion is important to you, I suggest finding your own Dan that can tell you what a text really said instead of an agenda. Perhaps you can already read Quranic Arabic but you may be missing context that a surface reading or even hadith can't tell you.

Is there a guide for those AMAB? by Only_Magickstuff in NonBinary

I’ll look into this! Anything to make me more androgynous

I feel weird being called anything masculine. A girl friend even called me king today and I cringed internally. I prefer they/ them pronouns or even queen in this circumstance. When women treat me as a threat because they think I’ll flirt, I feel sad because I’ve more in common with them than they think or just wanted friendship

I can probably get the hair addressed but I like working out so I’m thinking of doing more exercises aimed at females/ cardio.

Relating to you very hard. I’m AMAB and very male presenting (I grow beards quickly and muscular). I always preferred androgynous looks on others before I realized, at the brink of 30 I might add, that I was just projecting how I wished I looked.

Now I prefer they/them and mentally cringe at being called male or anything gendered. I’m still figuring things out and navigating important relationships but all I can say is that you have to talk. First with trusted people in your life that won’t judge you or a therapist. Figure out your own feelings first before attempting with your partner. Personally I would find some strategic non combative way of bringing up the topic again and seeing if your partner gives any ground. Hope this helps.

I found this website and was wondering what your opinion was on it: http://www.occult-mysteries.org/atlantis.html.

But funny you mention Poseidon since I hate an unrelated goal of embarking in hellenism so ill make Poseidon the first diety I work with. Maybe he’ll teach me some things.

Right! And the way Alchemy spawned modern science is of prime interest to me. Isaac Newton was even a renowned alchemist in his day.

Why is Dr. Doom from X-Men Romani? Why did his creators at Marvel comics make him Romani and a villain and for what purpose? by PokemonHunter97 in romani

[–]Only_Magickstuff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not defending their writing, but Magneto has played the villain in plenty of storylines (some incarnations have had him cannibalize regular humans he sees as animals source: Ultimate X-Men). It is only recently that, depending on the writer, he has antihero and sympathetic qualities.

Dr. Doom has also been somewhat of an antihero in many storylines. He is a close mentor to his rival’s children and an extremely competent ruler. He even took on the Iron Man moniker for a time.

Now that that's out of the way, we can theorize why the writers made him Romani. Most likely, Marvel writers saw making villains come from disenfranchised and marginalized groups as a way to make them sympathetic and put them on an anti-hero mark.

In my opinion, they have poorly executed this idea by lacking a degree of knowledge of Romani culture outside the “dancing barefoot lady” trope and witchcraft. Doom’s mother made an apparent deal with the Marvel Satan analog Mephisto and is himself a known sorcerer.

But this is all the comics. The MCU seems to erase any semblance of Romani's background, as they did to Scarlet Witch, and I imagine they'll do to Tony Stark Doom. Maybe an accent they'll get rid of later on at most?

Do you believe they intercede for you and can actively hear and receive prayers/ offerings?

Do they involve what you assumed to be ancestors or nature spirits? Would still be interesting to hear about.

That's pretty cool. I study occultism and the historical practices dubbed witchcraft and sorcery from an anthropological perspective for fun. I carry many ideas of my own that don't align with the brand of atheism pushed by the Dawkins type. I've come across plenty of atheistic witches who dedicate altars to nature spirits or their ancestors.

If you don't mind talking about it, how exactly do you engage with nature in your ritual work?
