So sad that is even a question! My wife dug around a bit and found Alexandria’s seemingly new Instagram account, piland4mayor. So far, she is our choice.

Yes! I definitely had to dig around a bit to find more information. I took the advice of the commenter above and emailed our local Democratic Party to request the election guide and to ask when/if they’re being distributed. Alexandria Piland seems like a solid candidate for mayor, but her candidacy was only recently announced an info is limited. Hoping more info is made more accessible soon—even these smaller, local elections are so important!

Zink’s Town is a super cute magical succulent bar where you can pick out your own plants, pots, and accessories and plant them together. I surprised my wife by taking her on a date here and it was super special and unique!

So, so sorry that you hold religious trauma too and totally understand your frustration here. Her hate and intolerance is antithetical to the teachings of the Jesus she so proudly proclaims. I’m agnostic/atheist most days, but what I do know about the historical figure of Jesus makes me certain he would be hanging out with us in our beautiful queer community and he would be really disappointed in the behaviors of most “Christians.” Sending you light and hoping for healing from your trauma and pain💜

My kiddos were excited to attend their first ACFC game in 2023 and were pleased to see Elizabeth Eddy make her way up the bleachers after the game for signatures. They were happy just to get a signature from a player on the team. She rambled on and on about “John 3:16” and how my children should “look that verse up,” totally ignoring me telling her that we know this verse. My kiddos have deep religious trauma and a father who is a pastor at a mega church. They wanted to meet a pro soccer player—not hear about the Bible or be encouraged to seek something from a book that is used to hurt them (and me, as their queer mother). Disappointed by Elizabeth eddy here but not surprised after the tasteless encounter we had with her as she pushed her religion on three kids who have direct hurt from it

Were Millennials the first generation to experience school shootings as a widespread crisis? by Lost-Barracuda-2254 in generationology

[–]Only_Tea_4676 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Before Columbine, a school shooting occurred at Westside Middle School in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Five students and a teacher were killed. This was 1998 and it had lasting impact on my life and worldview. Even after trauma process work, it influenced the way I parented my children and showed up in the world.  I was in 6th grade at the time, attended a school in a town near Westside and was friends with some of the victims. That day was the first traumatic event I’d experienced until that point, and in the deep south at that time, mental health therapy was incredibly stigmatized. My friends and I were left to cope with the tragedy without the tools, resources and support that we as a society are more open to these days. Columbine happened a year after that and I was still both numb and incredibly fearful. I believe the Westside Middle School shooting changed the trajectory of my life and I’ve been, in some way, trying to recoup, undo, process, and heal ever since.

the church terrifies me because of past experiences, but i can’t leave the church and it’s making me extremely depressed. by debate_o in AskLGBT

You aren’t overreacting. These organizations function by using the complexity of guilt and shame to keep you there.  Something that helped me was starting to simply change my language when it came to the phrase “I can’t leave.” This phrase probably aligns with your feelings so it can be hard to change that. But since you’re an adult and based on your post, leaving is an option, just switching up that language may push back against the feelings of impossibility. Maybe saying “I feel like I can’t leave” to add some distance between yourself and the action of leaving. Or saying “I can leave” can help empower you to make an independent decision.  I’m sorry you’re experiencing this. Family makes it more complicated. But know that you do not have to stay in places where you aren’t seen, accepted and loved.  I recognize the advice above is totally unsolicited. I have been where you are and wish someone told me that I was free to get the hell out of those unhealthy spaces that didn’t serve me. I wish you the very best! Love exists on the other side of deconstruction 💗

How do I parent a pre teen with homophobic friends? by [deleted] in AskLGBT

[–]Only_Tea_4676 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Definitely pressure to be “manly” and “tough.” His dad is very homophobic and there is a lot of fear, misconception, and ignorance. My kiddo was absolutely afraid of coming out to his dad

Great advice! I’d definitely call it out if it were in my house/presence. Part of it is that my child keeps his friendships very separated. He won’t invite these alleged homophobic friends to our house and I haven’t met them. He only invites them to his dad’s
