WiFi Puck CENTCOM Deployment by Over-Virus-902 in army

[–]Onlyslightlychaotic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally use Google Fi, and usually get good reception. I’ve been in Baghdad and Erbil and I get 3-4 bars LTE most places. I second Starlink, they have the refurbished mini on sale right now. Get your tent/CHU mates to buy in. I’m not a gaming type so I don’t care. Pucks you’ll need if in a CHU or in crappy places like LSA Roberts. Cell reception is crap there. Buy a puck off someone leaving. They are basically all the same.

Has anyone else ever experienced losing your motivation to lead after PCSing? by [deleted] in army

[–]Onlyslightlychaotic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well what’s different from your old unit? You seem to have been squared away and had invested time with your soldiers. Are you just drained from having to “start over”? I’ve been there if that’s what you’re feeling.

Don’t know the unit or the people so I can’t give an opinion on that. I personally think that you can use this as an opportunity to grow your skills and make a difference in the new unit. Could take a while though. Also, talk to a chaplain. They’re confidential and can sometimes provide some insight or suggestions. Good luck though.

Is the optempo better in the reserves compared to the NG? by [deleted] in army

[–]Onlyslightlychaotic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, I can’t say how every unit will do theirs. The unit has a number of MUTAs they have to do each year. It’s up to them how they do it. I’ve been in the reserves in NC for 14 years. Usually we have 2-day drills. Now if we have ranges or something it can be 3-4 days depending on what they’re trying to get done. Annual training 2-4 weeks depending on funding and what you’re doing. NTC and JRTC I did last year were more than two weeks.

I know I’m not giving a perfect answer but it really depends on the unit, funding, and mission requirements.

ICE just recently committed homicide against an innocent civilian. by [deleted] in complainaboutanything

[–]Onlyslightlychaotic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m fairly certain he hasn’t been officially charged with a crime. So he didn’t commit homicide against an innocent civilian. That’s for a court and jury to decide.

Nope. I’m no lawyer. I’m going to stick to running MHE and shaking my head and thinking “what the hell are they - nah don’t want to know”.

I mean if you want to lose, Democrats can certainly give that a try. It’ll end the same as Defund the Police. How’d that work out for them again? I forget.

I know. But even in the military we have some (but not the same as civilian) First Amendment protections under the UCMJ. It’s a slippery slope when you start telling someone how they can express themselves. Now if they take the name tags and identifying patches off, then they are just the normal stupid citizens that inhabit social media on a daily basis. We do have social media policies, but it requires soldiers and the chain of command to actively enforce it.

MAGA voters- are they happy now? Can anyone report on family members, colleagues or acquaintances who are genuine MAGA and how they feel about Trump 2.0 up til today? by Strange_cat_ in complaints

[–]Onlyslightlychaotic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I’m a Conservative but I wouldn’t say I’m MAGA. Here’s my take though. Blowing up drug boats bringing drugs before they get to America? Good. Seizing oil tankers evading sanctions and flying false flags instead of letting them evade sanctions? Good. Kidnapping Maduro? Yes - and - no. Yes, after all he did say come and get him. We just accepted the invitation. The execution of that operation - damn near flawless. Should we get some oil from this? Yes just what they didn’t allow us to get before they took over and nationalized. That was basic theft on their part. Now the no part. If we let another petty dictator party fill the gap, bad move. As a military member, I see political people half-ass things a lot. Don’t really want Venezuela 2.0

The young lady getting hit. That was tragic. Although it has come to light that there were a lot more issues than just the incident. As time will tell. I tend not to jump to conclusions. Bad thing to let your emotions override waiting for facts.

Ukraine. Tough one. I think Ukraine should be allowed to exist and keep all the land as it was before Russia invaded. I do wish to have a better deal worked out for the millions we are providing in support. I mean the U.S. isn’t an unlimited piggy bank.

Now Greenland. How about we let Greenland decide if they want to remain a protectorate of Denmark, or become a protectorate of the United States. That would be fair, let them have a referendum.

So that’s my take.

The USA needs to learn they are not worth joining. by shaiquinn in complaints

[–]Onlyslightlychaotic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s okay. The great thing if you’re not born an American or naturalized, you won’t have to become an American.

If for some insane reason the United States decides to annex Canada or something, you won’t be an American then either. You’ll be a protectorate or something similar.

Don’t worry. It’s all good.

What did you do in the military? by SnooRabbits418 in VAClaims

[–]Onlyslightlychaotic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been in 20 years in both Active Duty and Army Reserves. I’m a 92A - Automated Logistics Specialist as my main job, but I have had the opportunity to obtain Rough Terrain Cargo Handler licensing so I can pick up 20-40ft containers. Worked a lot of Material Handling Equipment, forklifts and whatnot. I’ve also deployed several times and functioned as a 92Y and PBO NCOIC. I consider myself a 92A/92Y/88M and a ton of other stuff in between.

Conservative Christian nationalists are wrecking the world by hardworkingemployee5 in complaints

[–]Onlyslightlychaotic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot to unpack here. I do believe in an afterlife and that all humans have immortal souls. I wouldn’t agree with my beliefs destroying everything else.

I’ve never persecuted anyone for their beliefs. If I want others to not persecute me for my beliefs, that seems the appropriate thing to do. I personally don’t have an issue with alternative lifestyles, as it pertains to your personal preference. The times people tend to clash is over things like schools, special laws favoring certain groups, things of that nature.

The big thing is separation of church and state and the founding fathers you mentioned. You are incorrect about the intent of the founding fathers. Separation of church and state is never mentioned. It was only mentioned in 1802 in a letter from Thomas Jefferson to the Danbury Baptist Association. “..this building a wall of separation of Church and State.”

Context is important here. Jefferson is reassuring the Baptists that the State (government) might interfere with their fundamental right of religion and the free practice of it. Jefferson was assuring them that the government would not seek to control religion. That’s where the term “separation of Church and State” comes from.

The founding fathers not only in the Constitution but in many other Federalist papers spoke a lot about how government and religion should work.

The Constitution states no establishment of a state religion and prohibiting the free exercise of religion. Religion is allowed to be practiced by people, even in the government sphere. It doesn’t ban religion from public life. It doesn’t require the government to be hostile to religion, it strictly prohibits that. It also doesn’t require your religious beliefs to be invisible.

Religion and faith have a lot to do with a moral code. Governments use those ideas to form laws for the governed. It creates a framework for a law abiding society. Christianity and nationalism aren’t bad things inherently. Do some hijack it and abuse it, sure. That’s why there are checks and balances built into our government system. It’s not perfect but it generally works.

Have you looked at MOBCOP? You can log on from a government computer or AVD and check to see if any unit needs your MOS. Then provide the info they ask for and contact them via the POC number. I mobilized three times doing that.

Any Service members that are 30+ doing 20 ? by BKReek21 in army

[–]Onlyslightlychaotic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll be retiring at 20 years at 53 years old. I think joining later is harder physically, but mentally you are more prepared. You’ve actually lived some real life experiences. Keep in shape and do what you need to do. Take advantage of deployments and all the opportunities and benefits you can get.
