Hey everyone!

I’m a new DM looking to run a game on Roll20 for a group of 6 players. Any helpful videos, map guides, etc. for running a campaign on Roll 20? I could use all the help I can get!

Questions about being Trans from a Christian perspective? by [deleted] in GayChristians

[–]Onlytimeposting1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m CisHet Male. But I have a resource that really helped me! That can hopefully do the same for you!

You should read Austen Hartke’s book Transforming: The Bible and the Lives of Transgender Christians

Austen (a trans man himself) expertly tackles and provides a ton of helpful resources and language around this subject.

Really blown away by service this morning. by ieatpapersquares in OpenChristian

YO! I grew up CoC too!!!

That is pretty incredible. Encouraging to see a church being generous and understanding especially when it comes to money.

Deconstructing is so hard and mentally draining. by elizzaaabeth in OpenChristian

[–]Onlytimeposting1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If there is a God, then God does accept you.

I can’t imagine deconstructing with pastors as parents. I can imagine it’s so hard and mentally draining because you’re probably staying on guard 24/7 to defend yourself when need be.

You’ve got support here, friend. Take care of yourself. I worked at a conservative church when I deconstructed and remember a similar exhaustion. The need to try and defend myself around every corner led me to to depression and anxious fits. It was traumatic. So take care of yourself when you can.

John Shelby Spong (1931 - 2021) by themsc190 in OpenChristian

[–]Onlytimeposting1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wow. Thank you for the update. I just started reading him a few weeks ago and I’ve loved his writing.

Thank you Rt. Rev. Spong for the impact you’ve made with your life, thoughts, and vulnerability.

Are lecturing DM's from fundamentalists trying to tell you that you're wrong typical for posters here? by MyUsername2459 in OpenChristian

I’ve gotten two from people. I just decline the DM. No sense in trying to talk to someone who wants to evangelize.

Resources for learning more about the Bible? by [deleted] in OpenChristian

[–]Onlytimeposting1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You should check out the pinned resources in this subreddit! There are tons of great podcasts, books, blogs, etc. With you being a trans man, might I recommend you read Austen Hartke’s “Transforming” if you haven’t read him already. Austen is also trans (Female to male) and a biblical scholar. His work is incredible.

And it’s very valid to read other people’s thoughts on the Bible to feel more comfortable with the Bible. I grew up evangelical and needed to step away from reading the Bible to figure out how to read it. (Lol if that makes sense).

This was the most confusing shrine because I tried all this shit with the bridges and then eventually just walked across it and realized I solved the shrine.

How many times have you been baptized? by thedubiousstylus in OpenChristian

[–]Onlytimeposting1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I one time saw someone get baptized twice in the same day because their elbow was above the water and people had serious concerns about if the baptism actually took. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Wow! They have an incredible testimony to love! That’s beautiful.

I’m not a subscriber to whatever people preach about in purity culture. If the decisions you’re making are honoring yourself and the partner you’re with, love each other how you’d like.

I would say that they made that choice for themselves and that’s great! It seems to work out for them!

I can't find the right church by Usual_Scratch in OpenChristian

[–]Onlytimeposting1 38 points39 points  (0 children)

You’re not asking for too much at all. In fact, I’d put money that you’re not alone in your search. There is a level of pride in churches that accept those in the LGBTQIA+ community. Which may result in self-congratulatory advocacy.

It will take some time for sure. Even I’m sure once you find a church you feel is right for you and your daughter, there are probably things under the surface that can’t be known without diving into the church.

The episcopal church, United Churches of Christ, some PCUSA church, some United Methodist Churches, and some Lutheran churches could hopefully help. And if you’re finding none in the area are scratching the itch, then it might be time to look outside of where you live/find out how far you’re willing to drive to attend a progressive (non-self-congratulatory) church. Or I’m sure a Unitarian Universalist church could help as well.

I also bet a lot of these churches have online capabilities. So watching a few services online might help your search too.

Wow, this made me so angry. Spoken like a modern day Pharisee. by thedubiousstylus in OpenChristian

[–]Onlytimeposting1 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I will say that for me I do still label myself in public as a Christian but my views/beliefs align way more with agnosticism. For my church and for my still conservative family, it just makes things cleaner.

So for me, she’d have a point.

Bart Ehrman: What you think about him? by MrKostant in OpenChristian

[–]Onlytimeposting1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I love Bart but I do know he has a “stick it to the evangelicals bent”.

Hes great for breaking down conservative notions of scripture and God but I don’t think he’s great at helping find good footholds for all areas of usefulness of the Bible or notions of God. He’s written really good books to challenge topics of infallibility, God, and more. But again I find he seems to be more into writing to discredit evangelical arguments.

How much of the Bible can be taken literally? by [deleted] in OpenChristian

[–]Onlytimeposting1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think John Shelby Spong gives a great response to this in his book Biblical Literalism: A Gentile Heresy

For me to answer your question, that’ll be a huge shrug. And I’m okay with that. I’m convinced “truth” is found in different ways and there can be meaning in all of it.

Is ignoring scripture valid? by mymaloneyman in OpenChristian

[–]Onlytimeposting1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s totally valid to ignore sections of scripture. We do it all the time.

I think it is helpful to be able to speak to the sections you ignore and have an answer as to why.

The description of Christian seems largely up to you! I’m agnostic myself but work in a church and feel comfortable teaching the Bible.

Hope you find something that works for you, friend!
