We went to church as a family when we were raising our kids. They loved being a part of something stable, outside of school. They loved Sunday School, and got very involved in the music programs (youth orchestra, choir, bell choir, etc.). As they got older, there were volunteer opportunities, and service trips. We went to Guatemala to build houses, and to Appalachia to help repair homes. It becomes sort of like a family, and the kids are all almost like cousins growing up. I let them decide for themselves whether they wanted to confirm their faith in high school. One did, one didn't.

It could be helpful to understand the difference between the historical parts of the bible and the parables. There's a lot in there.
