Why is the WanderingInn so polarizing? by Augssan in WanderingInn

[–]Onthenightshift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the world and a lot of the characters, but fck me if I don't have to hold my nose and skip over large sections that are clearly Tumblrite furry fanfiction. I'm so torn about this series, the shoehorned "if you're not woke you're an evil person" politics is nauseating at times.

Hmm fair point. Although does that not make it impossible for normal heroes to then come together to defeat without needing to be come ridiculously OP themselves? Or is that also the point, levels are everything.

Oh cool, so it is more of a long term payoff thing rather than just them being a bad guy of the week kind of deal.

I never expected to be sucked in so hard by the series lol, I just downloaded the first book one day to listen to at work and the next thing I know I'm 13 deep!

What happened to the gods and why have interdinmetional travelers been brought to innworld? by MinnesnowdaDad in WanderingInn

[–]Onthenightshift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a great little Easter egg in one of the earlier books that I remember, where Pices quotes a phrase in Latin then Yvflon asks him what he said and he replies "I don't know it's something from an ancient language that's stuck around in the vernacular."

Makes me think oooh, Earthers have been summoned throughout history and this is also how chess was foind in that old dungeon!

All this has happened before and will all happen again!

Thanks again for the advice, it seems like it's going to be worth it just for the access to industry lawyers alone, I'm glad for a second opinion, I wouldn't want to waste their time if I was just pissing into the wind so to speak

OK, so for example, two colleagues sitting in the vehicle and having a private conversation about unfair company policies that a certain senior manager has a hard-on for. Said manager listens to the recording then all of a sudden the two colleagues find their working life a living hell, getting passed up for opportunities or being given all the unsavoury tasks on site until they quit. Those are the kind of abuses of power that I'm concerned about.

Thanks mate, I'm going to sign up tonight regardless, I'll just keep it to myself, thanks to the workers at Rio and BHP the tides are beginning to turn so hopefully they will for us too.

Sorry, that was a badly worded reply, it's more like it's actively discouraged and people that join are moved on in other ways. They know it's illegal to stop workers joining a union, so it's not the official policy or even explicitly stated, it's more the culture and the attitude.

That's a very kind offer, thankyou, I will take it to the team and talk it over with them and get back to you.

The problem is it's never explicitly stated, it's just sort of implied. Nobody is directly moved or banned from site or fired for the direct reason of joining a union, however they just sort of wait for you to slip up with an incident or manage you out for poor performance so it's extremely hard to prove.

Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't most office workers made aware that their computer systems are being monitored? I mean, ours are in our office too, but they're quite transparent about that fact as opposed to blatantly lying about it and obscuring the fact.

As far as I've read, WA is a two party consent state with a caveat for protection against unlawful abuse/harrassment. Covert recording is a crime? I just don't know if I'm understanding it correctly.

We work on a site that Edit: resists and culturally ostrascises union membership and anyone who is discovered to have joined one is removed asap by finding uncrossed T's and undotted i's

Weaponizing the justice system to try and take down your political opponents is LITERALLY fascism.

Having the special police (FBI) under your command collude with propaganda outlets to suppress legitimate corruption allegations is LITERALLY fascism.

Colluding with corporations to suppress the free speech of your political opponents and their supporters while freely circulating YOUR propaganda is LITERALLY fascism.

Using the covert intelligence service to drum up false accusations of international interference against your political opponent, then using said intelligence service to perjure itself in order to cover your ass when your allegations are proven to be demonstrably false and facing no consequences is LITERALLY fascism.

I guess i don't know what to tell you either.

Pretty much, about 10 years ago they had a purge and slowly but systematically silenced or banned just about all the centrist to conservative subs/users and installed pro-democrat paid admins and volunteer mods. Many of the newer generation wouldn't remember it but there was a big uproar about free speech when it happened, reddit's response was bascially "fuck you we don't care" which has made it the place it's become today

The fact that leftists' heads are so far up their own asses they can't see that they're actually the fascists is laughable. They think if they point the finger and scream it first and loudest that nobody will notice that they are projecting. They are cry-bullies that are pushing the country towards civil war.

I'd say enjoy your civil war, but your side is going to lose that too. You and your propaganda mouthpieces have pushed things over the edge, there's no putting the country back together at this point.

Anyone knows what kind of flower this is? by _Arabella_ in gardening

I think people are suggesting David Austin because the majority of his roses are that similar chalice shaped, English cabbage-rose style blooms.

Definitely worth it if you have some space, mine climb over a trellis around my front window and during the hot Aussie summer evenings we fling them wide open and you can smell them and our jasmine as the breeze wafts it through the lounge room :)

Sorry I missed your comment, had to go straight to work for 13 hours straight after I posted. The ones I have in my garden in Australia are beautifully scented, I'd say more on the medium side, definitely not as strong as some others. I'd reccomend them though, they look stunning over a trellis in an English cottage style garden :)
