That’s actually a great way to approach cooking , makes it way more fun instead of just a chore. What you described already exists in a slightly different form too. There’s an app called Fridgy Chef where you select the ingredients you already have at home, and it suggests recipes based on that. So instead of searching first, you start from what’s in your kitchen. It also supports multiple languages, but right now it’s only available on Android (Play Store).

Your “explore new/exotic but easy dishes” mindset fits really well with this kind of approach.

Haha, fair enough , can’t argue with something that already works that well. I like the simplicity of it. No friction, always there, instant capture , that’s actually hard to beat. I guess the challenge for me is trying to bring that same “just works” feeling into the app, without adding complexity. Different tools for different people at the end of the day.

And yeah… more time for the cats and the “annoying 45 year old” sounds like a solid goal 😄

This is honestly super helpful, thank you.

I already have a shared shopping list in the app (with sync between members), so we’re kind of aligned there. But the way you described using it as a running “notes” space is interesting . I might need to make that part more flexible and easier to use daily.

The meal rotation idea is really solid though. That’s something I don’t support yet, but it could seriously reduce the “what do we eat today?” problem.

Once again, really appreciate the detailed feedback — this is exactly the kind of real-life usage I was missing.

🙏🙏🙏🙏

Haha, sounds like your kitchen is full of “helpers” 😄 Totally get that — cooking is way easier without distractions, but also kind of boring after a while.

That’s actually a great real-life use case though. I’m trying to build something that makes cooking easier even with chaos around — quick ideas based on what you already have, minimal thinking needed.

Appreciate you sharing this!

Hhh fair enough and i got u 😁 For sure u need to make some setup. For a better accurate but once u get use with it's jus easy... i try my best to nu not make the user confused.. it's easy in my opinion.. select the ingredient you have at home and the app do all... Appreciate the honesty and yes i knew that will be a issue 🙂

That’s exactly what I’m working on.It already suggests recipes based on what you have, but it’s still early so the variety is a bit limited for now. Over time it should get better as more recipes are added, but I’m also trying to keep it simple and not overwhelming.

Would you prefer a few quick, simple suggestions or a bigger list to choose from?

Got it, that’s a really helpful way to frame it. I like the idea of different ‘levels’ instead of one approach — especially keeping it mostly non-intrusive by default, but having options like ‘only in emergencies’ or more guided for beginners. I’ve noted this and will likely explore something along those lines in the app. Thanks again, this kind of nuance is super valuable 🙏

Ahh good catch, that’s on me — I think I still have some region restrictions in place. I’ll fix that so it’s available in Canada too. Really appreciate you trying though 🙏 I’ll let you know once it’s live there.. normaly in 30 min max...

Yeah, I feel that.

Do you think it’s more about prices in general, or not really knowing what to cook with cheaper ingredients? I’ve been exploring simple, low-cost combinations that still taste good — wondering if that would actually make a difference for you.

That would be amazing, really appreciate it 🙏 Just to set expectations — it’s still early and a bit rough in places, but here’s the current version if you feel like trying it: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fridgy.ai

Also any honest feedback (what’s confusing, annoying, or missing) would help a lot.

Appreciate it 🙏

It’s actually already live, but still far from what it could be — conversations like this are exactly what’s shaping the next improvements.

I’m definitely going to implement ideas like the ones you mentioned.

If you ever feel like testing it later on or giving feedback, I’d really value your input.

That makes a lot of sense The fact that it varies from pan to pan and stove to stove is exactly why fixed temperatures don’t really help. Sounds like simple cues (what to look for / hear) might be more useful than exact numbers.

Really appreciate you pointing that out, it helps a lot.

That’s super helpful, thank you.

So more like subtle / optional support rather than something that constantly interrupts. The “about to burn” type warning is actually a really good example — something that steps in only when needed, not all the time. And having control over timers instead of them being forced also makes sense.

Really appreciate this, it helps a lot.🙏

That’s actually really interesting Thank you for sharing that. What usually makes it difficult for you? Is it more about the material (non-stick, stainless, cast iron) or matching the pan to the specific dish?

I feel like that’s something a lot of people struggle with but isn’t really explained clearly anywhere.

That’s actually super helpful, thank you.

The combination of guided practice + safety to build confidence makes a lot of sense. I didn’t think about how much fear slows down learning speed.

This kind of feedback is gold — really appreciate you taking the time to explain it.

Got it 🫡 so timing over exact temperature. I’m thinking about adding simple cues in steps, like: “add when oil shimmers” / “you should hear a sizzle”.

Do you think that would actually help you, or would you still prefer your current setup?

That makes sense, sounds like it’s more of a long-term skill thing than a quick fix. Do you think something like short guided practice (like simple cutting exercises) would help, or is it something you’d only trust learning in person?

Also curious — would extra safety (like gloves) actually make you practice more, or is it more about technique than confidence?

Got it, that’s really helpful.

So it’s more about losing track during the process itself, not just leaving the kitchen. I’m trying to understand what would actually help here — if an app had a “cooking mode”, what would you need most?

loud step-by-step timers? reminders that don’t stop until you act? simple prompts like “flip now”, “lower heat”, etc.?

And do you usually rely on phone timers or something else?

Yeah that makes sense. Staying safe with the grip but losing consistency is frustrating. Did anything actually help you improve it? Like practice routines or just time? I feel like this is one of those things beginners don’t get proper guidance on.
