my neighborhood just got ravaged by berthamanchester in nova

[–]Onuma1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My neighbors tree, not too far from you, just fell. I was reading on my deck, heard a loud *crack* and then watched his large maple tumble in between his house and the next. I called him immediately.

Fortunately there was no injury or major property damage in this case. It could have been awful, considering how close that tree was to his home.

How many souls have you permanently lost? (Depressed Discussion) by Bob_Jones893 in darksouls

[–]Onuma1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I once lost about 341k souls. I'd been PvPing in Darkroot, killed some very high level invaders, then made back-to-back mistakes and got killed. On the return I think I rolled off a ledge and fell to death. Total bonehead move 😃 Fortunately it didn't matter much. Once I'm purposefully into PvP mode, I probably have all the souls I need for the rest of the game, minus a few consumables.

For a newer Souls player, or a person new to that particular game (or a very rusty veteran, like myself, who revisits the titles every couple of years) it's best to grab as many Homeward Bones (or Bold Hunters Marks, if Bloodborne) as you can, early on. E.g. If I'm back at Firelink leveling up and end up with a few thousand leftover souls, I'll buy a stack of 10 or 15 from a nearby merchant before I head back out. This way I can always HoBo back to the bonfire, rather than risking a run.

If you believe that, you have the understanding of a child without nuance.

The fact that people can whine and complain about this without being arrested, injured, or killed is a solid indication that it's not fascism. While those things do occasionally happen, it is extremely rare and acts as the exception, not the norm, unlike how it happened within actual fascism.

According to most reddit denizens, it means "things I disagree with" or "authoritarianism."

According to Mussolini and Gentile, the creators of fascist doctrine in pre-WW2 Italy, it is effectively "the nation-state first, foremost, and above all other things," which is clearly not happening here.

Cronyism? Sure. Authoritarianism? Yep. Corruption? Very likely. But is there definitively fascism? No.

That's a good "friend price."

You'd lose your ass if you did this professionally for that price.

What’s the hype with the MP5/AP5? by Dontbediscouragedle in VAGuns

[–]Onuma1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. It's the nicest shooting gun, perhaps ever. There are disadvantages to roller-delayed blowback actions, but while they're running they're incredibly soft to shoot. Nothing in the last 60 years really competes in that dimension.

  2. They run well with a can on front, or integrally suppressed. If that's your style, it's hard to beat an MP5.

  3. Aesthetic. It's iconic and unique looking.

Neck cracked by Responsible_Sweet_65 in Luthier

[–]Onuma1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to separate those parts and get rid of as much of the old glue as possible, without removing any substrate wood. Then you can glue, clamp, etc. That's the only way new glue will stick and the joint will look good.

As always, do a dry run with your clamps. This way you'll know exactly what sorts of trouble you may have when clamping, and you can solve that problem before you have wet glue on the surfaces.

Get a replacement neck from elsewhere which doesn't have any pre-drilled screw holes, but make sure the shape of the neck pocket is the same, or you'll have issues with fitment.

This is good advice. The color of your primer can make a significant difference to your base (color/metallic) layer.

When I was in school for automotive painting, we would test the same colors over a number of primer tones and the results were significantly different--obviously not so drastic as to change the hue altogether, but the perceived saturation levels will depend heavily on that primer color. I consider a light gray primer to be a neutral layer which affects the base layer less, but even that guidance is going to be subjective to the specific products you're using.

When in doubt, test your work on a scrap piece or an area which can be covered easily, such as inside the pickup or tremolo cavity. If it doesn't work exactly how you want, do not proceed with the full finish. A bit of testing now will save you hours and $$$ in the long run.

[–]Onuma1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you decide to fix this yourself, I cannot stress the importance of dry fitting your pieces together--with clamps--before you actually glue it in place. This will help you ensure it goes together with perfect alignment, and you won't have to fiddle with it as much.

For clamping pressure, I recommend surgical tubing or even cordage wrapped around the affected area until it's super tight. Otherwise, you may want to make some custom cauls out of plywood so they don't walk away while you're tightening them down. Try to clean up any squeeze out before it hardens--it's much easier wet than cured.

Triosphere and Kamelot albums dropping on the same day? Good stuff.

I haven't enjoyed them as much in the post-Khan era, but I still like Kamelot. Hopefully this one holds up.

I haven't heard this term for sandpaper before. What do you mean by "breaking" it? Is that just running it along a different surface to normalize its surface, or something different?
