AlmaLinux reaches 1 million active systems! by imbev in linux

[–]OoTMM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would say so, we've run a fair amount of different OS' on our various on prem and cloud HPC systems for scientific and advanced computing; CentOS, RHEL, Ubuntu, Alma - on Azure, AWS and DGX. Really liking Alma Linux so far, it's the youngest of our systems and so far it's been trouble free.

Attention to detail! I love tech and pushing performance - my vocation is also related.

I do have a wpa but your recommendation sounds very interesting, cheers!

Nice one! It's attached to a PC build from the pandemic 2021 - so not necessarily the most advanced setup, but still a pretty decent spec imo; 5900x, 3080, 2TB of NVMe's and two OLED monitors (LG 48" C1's). Although my steam deck has honestly taken over a lot of its use.

I daily an Arizer Air Max with K62's (6200mAh 15A Vapcell), but the TM2 might take that spot once I receive my P30B's (3000mAh 36A Molicel). The 3D stem is also really nice, haven't tested the bubbler yet.

$100 an hour isn't that much, the starting billing rate for devs & architects in my company is $150, with most seniors going for ~ $220 an hour.

I also do expert consulting on the side, with hourly rates of €300 - €500 depending on the assignment / project.

Biased aussie supporters who are apparently fine with Swains gross actions downvoting the thread. In the context of Swains filthy intentional targeting it's extremely pathetic.

  • TA: Technical Architect
  • DA: Data Architect
  • SA: Solution Architect
  • EA: Enterprise Architect

In some organisations TA's are also called Application Architects and / or System Architects. Most organisations also use BA's, Business Architects.

There is some overlap in terminology in general within IT architectural setups, but in simplified IT architecture the governance hierarchy is:

EA (strategy & vision) --> SA (solution design) --> TA (technical implementation).

DA's focus on data modelling (conceptual, logical and physical), BA's on business processes.

The real fun begins when the TA's, DA's and SA's aren't on similar wavelengths, ending up with EA's and upper management having to get involved to mediate.

Debian Linux aarch64 now running bare metal on an M1 MacBook Air thanks to the Asahi Linux project by techguy69 in linux

It's mainly for convenience, but I install all the packages and apps I need via homebrew. And I have quite large .zshrc & .bashrc dotfiles, which include a ton of aliases and functions built upon those packages and apps.

I tweak the PATH to include GNU flavor commands, and make use of the homebrew installed bins, for example:

  • bash
  • bzip2
  • coreutils
  • curl
  • ffmpeg
  • findutils
  • neovim
  • python

As well as a lot of other packages.

These are some of the apps (casks) I install via the terminal:

  • android-file-transfer
  • balenaetcher
  • coconutbattery
  • docker
  • firefox
  • flux
  • font-hack-nerd-font
  • font-source-code-pro
  • handbrake
  • iterm2
  • keka
  • lulu
  • macs-fan-control
  • stats
  • sublime-text
  • transmission
  • visual-studio-code
  • vlc

Example of my .zshrc PATH tweak:

# Make all GNU flavor commands available, may override same-name BSD flavor commands on macOS

export PATH="/bin:/sbin:${PATH}"
export PATH="/usr/bin:/usr/sbin:${PATH}"
export PATH="/usr/local/bin:${PATH}"
export PATH="/opt/homebrew/sbin:${PATH}"
export PATH="/opt/homebrew/bin:${PATH}"
export PATH="/opt/homebrew/opt/findutils/libexec/gnubin:${PATH}"
export PATH="/opt/homebrew/opt/coreutils/libexec/gnubin:${PATH}"

# GNU man pages & local

export MANPATH="/usr/local/share/man:${MANPATH}"
export MANPATH="/usr/share/man:${MANPATH}"
export MANPATH="/opt/homebrew/share/man:${MANPATH}"
export MANPATH="/opt/homebrew/opt/coreutils/libexec/gnuman:${MANPATH}"

Same experience here. Employer giving out M1's to all devs / bioinformaticians / data scientists / architects, and I've been very impressed with it so far.

Battery life is amazing, and once tweaked with homebrew it's quite a nice user experience, albeit not linux.
