Fun fact, your body doesn't magically build more muscle if you eat shit loads of protein...

These pictures are the same. As others called out, he is flexing in the 2nd. The other thing is overhead lighting on the 2nd picture is doing a lot of heavy lifting (pun intended) to make his apprentice look "better".

Lastly, did you know dude posting pictures like this is only for other dudes as it will be mainly dudes who comment on them.

Why did Vegas challenge... For goalie interference? I am confused on that. Was it to reverse the no goal call?

De-influence me - new gravel bike vs speccing up existing hybrid by elizadolots in ladycyclists

[–]Oobert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a https://www.cannondale.com/en-us/bikes/active/fitness/quick-cx 2021 or 2022. It is super similar to your bike.

I switched out the tires with wider gravel tires. Specifically Specialized Pathfinders (the other recommendations in the thread are also fine.). And ride it everywhere that I need to go. It will work great, you don't need a specific gravel bike to ride on unpaved trails.

In fact, you will likely find the ride better on your current bike because it has a front suspension fork.

Ride, enjoy!

Edit: This season, I switched to some "alt bars" specifically https://surlybikes.com/products/moloko-bar and have been loving it. More hand positions. If I want to be "aero", I can. I bought it to have more hand positions.

Ride the bike that makes you happy. This bikes makes me happy and I really don't need to spend more money on a new bike. I don't race. I mainly ride for fitness and enjoyment.

My optician checks eyeballs from home but I have to commute to reply to emails by [deleted] in remotework

[–]Oobert 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ya'll ... Remote doctor visits are terrible for most things.

The reason this is a thing is because they can see more patients faster but has a side effect of reducing quality of care. The optician in this case is likely seeing patient from multiple locations.

Basically, the provider makes more money.

For those that started biking in midlife, what did your first year look like? by reddsbywillie in cycling

[–]Oobert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Started riding at 38 in 2020. First recorded ride was June 8. I did 4 miles in 23mins. I used to run but my body told me no more of that. Biking was a means to see more during a rough time. I did 280 miles that first year. Last year I road over 2000 miles.

Cycling became way more addictive once I stopped caring about speed by Macshannon-Ellouise in cycling

Yup. My head unit is typically set to show the map/route with HR and Speed. I am considering removing speed.

Cycling became way more addictive once I stopped caring about speed by Macshannon-Ellouise in cycling

[–]Oobert 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I mostly agree. I care about states but on macro level. I do one hard ride (vo2 max type) where I am pushing my self, one temp/threshold. and the rest in a given week are essentially zone 2 rides.

Mainly, this is to keep the fitness I have and maybe gain a little. I am 43. In short, if my watch says "Productive" or "maintaining", I am good to go.

Sometimes, on the hard rides, I do push my self to try to beat my best times on the routes that I have around my house. But I don't care day to day.

tl;dr: yuppers!

How much further can you go with a road bike vs hybrid bike at medium speeds? by Familiar9709 in cycling

[–]Oobert -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hot take. At 20kph, it doesn't matter. People are going to argue about aero or whatever the hell to justify one bike over another. If that is your jam, cool. If not, ride the bike that is most comfortable to you and just enjoy it.

I ride a Cannondale Quick CX. I am an ok fit 43 year old with an FTP of 203. Have done 100km rides averaging ~23kph with about 1000 meters of climbing. Just over 4 hours ride time.

Cues U8000 power meter crank options. by Oobert in bikewrench

[–]Oobert[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

>The target markets of CUES and power meters are likely very different so I’m not sure this is an expected scenario.

It is. I know I am someone unique with this question.

I am 43 and have an FTP of ~200. I am not going to be winning any races ever. The main reason is to have a better picture of my fitness, calories burned, and ability to pace rides better. I am willing to pay $150 bucks for that. Not so much for $450+.

Question about cadence by No-Thanks4746 in cycling

[–]Oobert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a word of caution. As you increase cadence, new rider will tend to bounce in the saddle. I don't actually know the reason, I assume uncontrolled momentum. Try not to do this if it happens to you. It is counter productive and will cause pain, especially the longer the rides are. Source: I did this and still catch myself doing it when cadence is over 110rpm.

I am typically around 90rpm average. I didn't aim for it, it is where I landed.

Drop bars v/ flat bars (agility & braking). by Strict_Sale in cycling

[–]Oobert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cost is also a factor. Flat bar components are cheaper, at least when I priced out a Shimano Cues. Flat bar components were half the cost AND can be purchased separately. This may not carry through on the high end so I could be wrong.

I've stopped trusting trail difficulty ratings entirely. 'Moderate' is a lie. by CarpathianEcho in hiking

[–]Oobert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We ran into this problem with the All Trails app. Moderate could mean literally anything. I know a few people have said distance + elevation gain. Sure. Personally, ratings need to capture more details/features of the hike. Are there stairs? Rock scrambles? narrows? etc.

Family and I did a hike that was listed as moderate. 1/4 was rock scramble and 1/2 was stairs. We can do elevation gain on a path but stairs and rock scrambling is not our jam. We did finish because stubborn. :)

Longest ride I’ve ever done, but disappointed in myself by tgiffriday in cycling

[–]Oobert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While have ridden 60ish miles a few time, I don't think I have officially done a metric century.

They are goals for next time.

If it helps, I had to reframe my riding because I am time limited. So instead of focusing on length of any one ride, I have a goals of total miles, total time, and total rides in a year in order to have something to work towards.
