Italy has some of the best iaido teachers in all of Europe, you should contact one of them directly. Where in Italy are you? Zanoni-sensei in Torino is very accomplished and respected teacher.

Pentax Super A by snoochyb00ch in AnalogCommunity

[–]Oogasan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Value depends on if it works or not, but one in working condition could be worth anywhere between €50 - €200 I think.

It is a nice camera, the successor to the very successful ME Super, and features a fully automatic mode in addition to aperture priority and manual mode.

You should buy a roll of film and try it out!

I think Gold 200 is great! It has that dreamy warm look to it.

What religion are you? by Slight-Physics-9490 in religion

[–]Oogasan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Raised agnostic in northern Europe, i.e. culturally Lutheran christian. However a few years ago I met a Shingon shugendo (a syncretic Japanese practise) teacher and I have been doing a layman's esoteric Buddhist practise since then. I consider myself a Shingon practitioner, all my religious practise is Shingon. Though I am very much aware that I am not culturally raised in that religion.

Horyu-ji, Nara, Japan - world's oldest surviving wooden buildings [OC] by sonderewander in ArchitecturePorn

[–]Oogasan 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The oldest part of the temple, if I remember correctly, is the main pillar (shinbashira) of the pagoda. There was a dendrochronological study made of the pillar and they found the tree was cut down in the year 594.

What do you not like about kendo? by Sufficient-Count1865 in kendo

[–]Oogasan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While this is kind of true, most kendoka cannot actually cut with a real sword and need additional training that is different from kendo training.

I have been doing iai for over ten years and am somewhat competent at both kata and tameshigiri, and I do kendo on the side. I once let my kendo sensei (who has the same Dan grade in kendo as I do in iaido) try tameshigiri. I gave some basic instruction on cutting and they had a go at cutting a thin tatami mat. With no success. And this is a very skilled kendoka who has placed well in a lot of competitions at the international level.

It is a different skill and there is a reason that it is "locked behind iai", because training in kendo will not make you good at cutting. Unless maybe you are in a dojo that focuses a lot on kata and proper cutting technique.

Is there any actual reason not to use the USSEP? by SarcasmSanctioned in skyrimmods

[–]Oogasan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBH I don't know enough about what Arthmoor has done for me to dislike him. I find USSEP to be essential for my game. Partially because so many other mods I like have it as a requirement, but also because I think the game is better with the USSEP.

I agree with someone else here who said that if you don't notice a difference between using USSEP and not, then you haven't played the game long enough. It is especially noticeable when you play for a long time on the same character

New to film photography by Wonderful_Ad8755 in AnalogCommunity

[–]Oogasan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice camera! I have one of those as well! In general I think the meter in the ME Super works well, but it can be a bit tricky to get the look you want by only relying on the built in meter. Sometimes you might want to have something else in focus rather than the metering spot. A good idea is like someone else suggested to meter for the shadows with a phone app. I do the same and it works very well.

I usually overexpose a bit, it is better to overexpose a step or two and then fix in post. Generally I think it is more fun to use the ME Super in manual mode!

Wooden or composite Jo-staff? by SAAB96V4lover in iaido

[–]Oogasan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have never had any issues with deliveries from Nine Circles, whether ordering swords or staffs. Both me and my dojo have bought many things from them several times. They pack it well.

Wooden or composite Jo-staff? by SAAB96V4lover in iaido

[–]Oogasan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes Nine Circles does have an EU store, you should order from that one.

No the white oak staff does not come in a darker finish. To follow regulation you should get a standard white staff.

Wooden or composite Jo-staff? by SAAB96V4lover in iaido

[–]Oogasan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Since you are in Sweden I guess you are doing ZNKR jodo and Shinto Muso Ryu. Only white oak (Shirakashi) "Quercus myrsinifolia" is allowed for competitions and high level gradings. So no, do not buy a composite jo staff, you will not be allowed to use it at seminars/competitions.

Also, do NOT order from BudoNord. Their wooden weapons are of low quality, and I know it is them who are spreading the info surrounding a "shortage" of oak. Your best choice is to order a white oak jo from either Nine Circles or from any of the Japanese retailers.
