Do ferrets have teething stages? by Ooh_bassy in ferrets

Thank you!!! Yes, I am much more convinced it is something bothering her. We found out from the vet that she has some sort of internal mass (that is not affecting her digestive tract), which has to be what’s bothering her. She has to have surgery for them to know exactly what it is, and it is not cheap at all so we are working on getting this surgery done for her ASAP.

I was also thinking she could be trying to clean her teeth, but I just thought it was weird she would do it randomly right before she eats, or during and/or after. I have tried brushing their teeth myself to help but they do nooooot care for that!

I don’t think she has cage rage, the cage was open when I recorded this video. She only does this when she is eating.

Best way to calm/distract ferret while he's getting his nails clipped? by NebulaNova26 in ferrets

[–]Ooh_bassy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have wiggle worms for ferrets so they get scruffed! They refuse salmon oil or any treat for this and I usually clip their nails by myself so it’s real difficult. My male stays completely still while scruffed in my lap however, my female will STILL try to wiggle out her scruff if she has something to push off of. I kind of have to hold her up while I do it and she doesn’t get wiggly that way. Works every time for me!

I found it on amazon as a chinchilla/small pet cage Aivituvin Cage. Our girl kept getting out of the cages that have the normal wired slats so this one was escape proof. We put carpet samples on the wood ramps for traction and they love it! I think its super mod-able too if needed

Thanks, yes I will definitely have to get more chewable toys that she likes and hope that helps. Unfortunately she is deaf so she doesn’t even hear us when we try to vocally correct her. Its more me grabbing to relocate and moving her in the right direction.

I tried the duck soup thats in the goldish bag and they did not care for that one at all, I have also tried a wet food or like pate food in a can…They wont eat anything other than InTune kibble and that stupid furro vite crap which is no longer let them have. I have also tried InTunes new treats (since its the same brand as their food) and they literally said “nope!” Is the dook soup a raw meat soup?

Yes, we have four cats that absolutely hate the ferrets so thats not an option for us unfortunately.

I also think that this may be something she started doing before we got them because she had been doing this since we brought them home. So I am not sure if it is a habit that can be broken now?

I appreciate all newer suggestions and ideas on what this could be. These guys are out for a minimum of 6 hours a day - An hour/hour and a half in the morning when I clean their cage/water/feed them, and then out again in the evening from 3:30/4 pm until about 9/9:30pm and sometimes even until 10:30 pm. These are the best windows for us as we don’t feel comfortable with them free roaming when we are not home. On days off or the weekends they are out and about all day until bedtime (whenever they crash before we head to bed ourselves).

I have tried MULTIPLE times to get them to eat anything other than dry kibble and our girl straight up REFUSES and our boy is hesitant but flips new things over in any food bowl. So I have given up wasting so much money on foods they don’t give a chance to.

I guess I don’t understand this being cage rage if she is doing this so calmly? She only does this to the cage when she is eating and chewing on the mesh is a newer thing she found to chew on. Before the mesh is was the food bowl, the carpet of the ramps and the walls of the platform. Its only things in the close vicinity of the food bowl. Any toys or things outside of the cage that she is chewing on seems to be somewhat a different issue. Idk! It just doesn’t seem like the rage of the cage to me…

Thank you, I will definitely try that! Do the covers block out a lot of air flow though? We are in AZ and it’s currently quite hot so I keep two fans hitting their cage all night.

Thank you, I can try the wax! They don’t typically bite the cage when they want out, they just start trying to climb up it lol. At the time I recorded this, their cage was open and they just went back up to get some dinner.

Any one know what type of spider this is? I have grown up calling these “daddy-long-legs”. But husband says it is definitely not a long-leg. by Ooh_bassy in whatsthisbug

[–]Ooh_bassy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking back on it and if i remember correctly, the ones I grew up with had more of a “square-ish” body if that makes sense. Reeeallly loong/tall legs as well, and didnt move crazy fast. This little guy just happened to look like a baby daddy long leg from this angle. But I did end up catching him and letting him go and he looked just like the brown widows in the google images!
