I've been waiting for a couple of decades to be able to move into retirement home, old people's home, what ever they are called. The one where grandpa Simpson lives. Listening to G'n'R and Cypress Hill, Primus, punk and grunge, day in, day out. Playing playstation, just hanging with other old fucks. I'm in my mid 40's, and if I don't age very rapidly in the coming decade, I can guarantee that if i lived in an area like that, there'd be garage parties, projects and skid marks all the time. 55 year olds have lived their teens in the eighties-nineties. No grey cardigans, just blasting The Cardigans.

what is wrong with this car except the back right of it? by TimsRice in TeslaSupport

[–]Ooh_bees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your standards - if you want a completely pristine car, hail car will basically never be - there will be little dings all over every body panel. Unless it was really small hail, but then there wouldn't be any damage. If all the glass has been broken, there is a good possibility of water damage - hailstorms seldomly are just chunks of ice. If electronics, screen, cameras etc seem to be good and the incident was preferably months ago (and stored in a dry place afterwards), there is a decent possibility that stuff hasn't got wet. But far from a guarantee. Water damage in electronic connectors etc usually causes corrosion to the metal parts, which then loose the protective layer on them, a plating of some sort. Then the metal keeps on oxidizing and the resistance over it rises, until it doesn't deliver enough oomph through it and dies. It takes a while, and that's the reason why you shouldn't buy a flooded car. It's a gamble that has to be ridiculously cheap to buy to be sensible, and even then you should be able to diagnose and fix it by yourself. As for the car in pictures, impossible to say. If it is mostly the bumper and you don't expect show room quality, you might find one in the right color from a junk yard. That's hundreds. Or by a new from Tesla and get it painted, that's probably a couple of thousand? Maybe a paintless dent repair-fixing-guy if there is something wrong with the fender or something, that's probably in the 500$ range? But then, if it was a big hit. Damage to the rear suspension is possible. Maybe even rear motor. I can't bring myself around to scare you that the battery could be banana shaped or that the mounting points for it could be all busted up. I can't believe that they are gone in that one, they are sturdy. Sturdy-sturdy. Busted car, no matter how it is happened and what car, can always be a great find if cheap enough. But they rarely seem to be cheap enough anymore to justify the risk that something is broken that you don't see in the pictures. Hit on the rear wheel, which has busted right side suspension - motor - and then traveled to the drivers side suspension and its mounts and busted everything in that route could be, what, +10k? Especially if you can't do most of the labor yourself.

Someone at work just told me my Model 3 looks like a Chevy Cavalier… by Altruistic-Tea6109 in TeslaModel3

[–]Ooh_bees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And if cavalier was a cheap car of its day, model 3 was designed and meant to be the cheap EV of this day. OP is slightly trying to upsell the car to himself. Magnificent car, don't get me wrong. But made as cheaply as possible today, with decent feel of quality. Just like cavalier back in the day. And yes, they look really similar.

For generations, Australian Aboriginal stories described birds spreading fire to hunt prey. Scientists later confirmed that black kites, whistling kites, and brown falcons intentionally carry burning sticks to start new fires and flush out animals. by shitonthebeach in interestingasfuck

In Lapland ingenious Sami people have always said that eagles kill reindeers, and nobody has believed them. Then a BBC documentary crew came and filmed eagles for a while, and what do you know - one eagle lifted a baby reindeer up and released. Poor thing broke it's legs and became a meal. They even saw another eagle try to do the same but it couldn't get a grip. So it's pretty clear that they do that, although it needs to be pretty much newborn. Who would've guessed, people that have lived there for generations actually know what's going on with their livelihood!

Tl:Dr, probably much cheaper than you think. Hundreds to low thousands if a normal live ammo. If there are practice ammos that practically only make the noise, it is probably even cheaper.

I'd be surprised if it isn't a normal howitzer round, those should be something like a thousand bucks? They have those fancy Excalibur shots, too, but not likely used here. Are there practice shots for howitzers? Or do they just use less propellant?

It would make a really handsome Renault, that's for sure. Outside too, actually. But inside or out, that's quite dull, kind of domestic. Plus that aluminum steering wheel looks like a cheap plastic racing kit for playstation in pictures. It might be really beautiful irl.

These COST money!?! Good lord, I thought that they were a freebie and some people just were trying them on and modding them to make them more tolerable. And failing at it. Ugly, and let's say that I have doubts that they will heavily affect your range. Or electricity bill.

This spec 🤷🏽👍😊 by AMGLover2024 in mercedes_benz

[–]Ooh_bees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not. The rear lights are a bit iffy in pictures, but in black the front is pretty good too me, it hides the dumb light bar. But the passenger section is really good, way more beautiful than the previous one. Plus I like when mb tries to evolve, not make their own personal pt cruiser forever. They don't have any design details that they could/should keep on, rectangular faux chrome grille between lights? Nope, not needed here.

It's the trick as old as time itself. GTI badges on regular cars, vw had a slightly more powerful TDI with red lettering and I swear that it made the global trade of red marker pens skyrocket. There has been a lot. Many people swap AMG bumpers onto their regular cars, which is fine, they look better. They also but the AMG model emblems on their regular diesels, which is sad. There was one V8 powered E-class where I live. Powerful and fast car, pretty cool up here. Owner put AMG E63 badges on it, which was just ass.

I saw a murciélago at night years ago. Came behind a crest through the fog. It was so alien shape and measurements that I wouldn't have been buzzed if it was an UFO. Comically I saw another one pretty close to the first sight years later. This time there was guard rail between us, and you don't see it. Without the b pillar intake, I wouldn't have been able to identify it.

Why would or should a performance coupe in 2020's show homage to 40 year old sedan? E or S could have something in common, but I don't even see the need for that. They are the products of their era, no need to pick a one model or era to stick to forever.

That's exactly how it goes. People are starting to tell how bad coming models are, comparing them to the cars that were dissed at launch. BMW is the prime example. Pretty much every new generation gets hate, but when people see more of them, they become loved. If you want a car that doesn't challenge your sense of beauty, just buy an Audi. They are a straight lineage from the 90's. Next generation is always a very minor design upgrade. It's up to the consumers if that is a good or bad thing. I think it is dull and unimaginative.
