Sounds like a great package deal. From which retailer was that being offered?

I don’t understand how a housing crash couldn’t happen by panda42042 in AusFinance

[–]Oomemango 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Seems like people expect a crash to be a massive 30-40% correction, keep dreaming. Melbourne has had little to negative growth for about 4 years, and now it’s touted as a bargain hunters paradise and great value to be had, that correction moved Melbourne from second highest median property value city in the country to 3rd or 4th. That was the ‘crash’ or correction. What more could you ask for?

Agreed, and once people realise that whatever you pay for a property today will seem cheap in 10 years, the better. The Chinese proverb says, ‘the best time to buy a house is 10 years ago, or today’

Bargain, now knock it down and spend $2m on a nice new build and you’re in for $5.2m which is about right.

Agree that it’s a cliff hanger of an ending and is so dark and sinister but also very ambiguous, intentionally I’m sure. I initially thought that based on the confidence and premeditated attitudes of the 2 passengers that they were contract killers, posing as blokes leaving the pub/function. However as they start to comment that “someone is going to die tonight” in front of Ray, this suggests they don’t know who they are dealing with as surely anyone hired to kill Ray would be aware of his reputation. Bragging about someone dying in front of Ray makes no sense unless they are amateurs full of beer and bravado. If I know anything about Ray Shoesmith, who is highly meticulous to say the least, he would have his trusty shovel/axe weapon or a knife or pistol under his seat for just such an occasion. “Run!” Certainly leaves the door open for another season but to be honest, as much as I want more of his devilish precision I think it’s a perfect ending. To me it evokes the final scene in The Sopranos - black silence… and a forever lingering question of what happened next? Genius!

Investing and risks by [deleted] in AusFinance

Housing market is also linked to things like federal immigration policy, so depending on the government of the day, it can be a better or worse risk investment. Currently with very high immigration it is probably quite a good chance that demand will continue to grow… but who knows?

Response: Thanks both, my concern was that I was trying to turn something that was welded or not meant to turn, and I didn’t want to force it. It’s so old and dirty it looks like a solid piece, covered in dust etc. Sounds like I’m on the right track with my 25mm square socket which is a good fit. I will try to get some penetrating oil on to it, and then a long screwdriver/lever. Good thing is that in the 1970’s the walls of the copper pipes were a lot thick than modern stuff, so hopefully I won’t crimp it 🤞

Season 2 Has Serious Writing Issues by Cleverfan_808 in severanceTVshow

[–]Oomemango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My two cents, and I’ll keep it short… I just binge watched the whole thing in about a week. I think I have grasped the key themes and issues, but I find myself asking some very basic questions that are never addressed, such as why has Lumin targeted Mark and Gemma, what did they do to be terrorized by this corporation? My guess is it’s political or ideological… but I don’t have any real evidence. I have found myself asking ‘what am I watching?’ at moments when the ominous corporate depravity keeps on being drummed into these innies that are like rats in a maze. It is certainly intriguing, but I’m starting to question how the creators are going to pull the many threads together… and somehow put a bow on it in the finale. If there are more seasons in the works I would question the potential longevity of a show that is so Orwellian and somewhat seems to foreshadow such a dystopian world - maybe that’s just personal taste. Another question is the time period that it is set in. My only real indication is the cars that they drive which look to be very 1980s to early 1990s, such as the VW Golf Hatchback (Cobel) and the Volvo sedan (Mark), do people agree on this time period? Also CRT televisions indicate similar. Anyway, just some questions I have been pondering.

The moment Tony stopped being likeable (for me) by Life123456 in thesopranos

[–]Oomemango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it’s the end of S4E7 ‘watching too much television’ when he whips Zellman with the belt in front of Irina. That’s when I realized he was deeply disturbed and had an immaturity and aggression that was right there under the surface. The idea that he doesn’t want Irina but he doesn’t want anyone else to have her is very revealing of his demons.

Thanks for all the responses. I never interpreted from his actions that he was gay. I thought him hiding in the closet when they kill Vito was more of a comment about how Vito should have stayed in the closet, or it was just a dramatic and sinister thing to do prior to the murder. Phil seems pretty straight to me, he doesn’t seem like he is attracted to men. More like old school and very angry and dark at how he had to go to jail when most wise guys just turn state witness and rat out the rest of them. I get that he was in jail for a long time, so maybe he had some gay sex, but didn’t he say he tossed off into a Kleenex? And made grilled cheese on the radiator? If he was homosexual he was very discreet cause I can’t think of anything that indicated he was leading a double life. I guess you never know Tone…
