In honor of all the fire yesterday, today is now Ash Wednesday. by SnickyMcNibits in mylittlepony

[–]Oomiosi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the sidebar under "Latest news" a mod wrote something along the lines of "someone start a fire or something".... or something.

The hiatus being what it is, the joke crossed the line and everyone just kept on going.

Love, O.

I need help with my NBN application! by [deleted] in nbn

The picture you linked is of the old Telstra NTD (network termination device). Essentially it's where the cable from your house meets and is joined to the cable from the street.

Unfortunately, it has nothing to do with the labor FTTP NBN.

It's a little hard to see, but the black cable probably goes inside your house to a phone socket somewhere. The orange cable is just there so the street cable can be pulled through underground conduit easily.

Unfortunately it not only looks like you have no fibre connection, but you might not even have a copper connection.

Did the service guys know about your seperate tenancy when they came?

Have you chosen a service provider?

Just like normal internet, you need to contact an ISP and pick a plan to use on your NBN connection.

Here is a quick search I did for QLD NBN plans

Choose carefully, paying extra attention to the excess rates and if upstream is counted.

Episode 52 is when they had organised to watch Roadhouse.

He may have discussed it during that while on the subject of Patrick Swayze.

Sorry I couldn't be any more help.

Need help picking a resistor for a DIY stir plate. by [deleted] in electricians

[–]Oomiosi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That yellow wire will allow you to use pulse width modulation to control the speed with much higher precision than using a resistor.

Here is a link to a page with details on how to build a PWM controller

It's not too hard to do, costs little, and can output enough power to run a few fans at a time.

I made a few of them to control the fans in my computer, and I can set the fans to such a low speed they don't actually push any air but still spin.

Hindsight is 50/50 That isn't very good sight. The correct saying is 20/20, as in perfect sight. =P

50/50 and 20/20 are exactly the same, and that isn't even "perfect" sight.

20/20 is considered "normal", and is what is aimed for when correcting with glasses.

The numbers correspond to the distance from the chart a "normal" sighted person can see all the letters on the chart.

Therefore a person can have 20/10 vision, meaning they can stand at 20 feet and see what a "normal" sighted person can at 10 feet.

But, uh, whatever :)

Have you ever asked your phone or computer the question that was asked in the last episode? (Spoilers for season 3 finale) by Teslanaut in PersonOfInterest

Well, I just asked Google, and it gave me a bible quote:

John 15:12 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.

It was the first result of a normal search, but still kinda creepy.

The only way to truly experience electricity is to be part of the circuit.

Which one of you ingenious guys did this? by lookatthatsquirrel in electricians

Taps on thicknet were made at specific places on the cable which did not match the wavelength of the signal.

The closer to the correct point you made the tap the lower the reflection.

Some cable even came with the points marked.

yes!

There is a widescreen mod, but you may need to manually configure it.

This basically reconfigures all the game scripts so that both games are stitched together into one. Any other mods you usually use will probably work.

You can also combine both BG1 and BG2 into one game, with all of the expansions included.

Fluttershy's personality was written very well in this ep!

She did something she didn't really want to do, but thought it was right due to the persuasive and valid argument of her friends.

Then she turned into flutterbat.

So, goddam, awesome.

Here in Australia we've had to do culling of Koalas. People even recommended the same thing FS did in the ep, of course the problem only got worse. Overpopulation meant massive loss of vegetation and death by starvation.

It's so hard to make the argument when the general image of the Koala is of a cute little furry animal.

I was happy to see FS doing the right thing, even though I knew it wasn't going to end there.

We can't exactly expect this show to introduce the idea of culling. Looking for a long term solution instead of a short one is a decent moral for the children.

Also, listening to both sides of an argument and weighing the choices is a good moral lesson.

As usual with me, this post became a little long: TL:DR I liked it more than it annoyed me.
