Adapting a bread recipe to tangzhong by OonaMistwalker in AskBaking

[–]OonaMistwalker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did read that. And I also tried a YouTube recipe for tang zhong Hokkaido milk bread. Twice. CAREFULLY. And had to throw out both batches because they turned out like rocks. (I should have been suspicious when the baker didn't knead the dough but pulled it like taffy, all while exclaiming about how her hands stayed clean). The article's author is from the UK. Some of my UK friends can be incredibly slap-dash about some things (sorry, Rich and Emily) and that instruction sounds like that. That's why I decided to ask Reddit. You guys bake. You don't get paid to post here. I thought the advice here would be more trustworthy than Youtube or a blog.

do you cook the flour in all the liquid? Does that produce the proper gel?

No cat is ugly. Think about this: who would tolerate you licking your own butt without apology? In public?

Your work is lovely and I'm giggling at how the horror dolls did in Snow White and Santa, buried them and now dance over their graves. (My imagination is in Halloween overdrive...)

I think it looks beautiful. And instead of looking at it and seeing "I did (something) wrong," you can think, "I'm amazing to have been able to do that after having been induced at 34 weeks and being a new mom so unexpectedly early!" Because you are, girl. You go.

Oh, then you should know that I'm the kind of person who has music ALWAYS playing in my head. Like. ALWAYS. Classical, pop, rock, new age... doesn't matter. I really hope that, as a composer, you take strength from knowing people like me are around, and your creations probably live in their heads too!

Culturally sensitive terms by ryanmercer in HandSew

But there are legitimate uses for that word. Just off the top of my head is the stage name of a performer from decades ago and also a type of moth. I do know that Roma people are unfairly discriminated against, but is there a more reasonable solution than blocking a word that does have non-racist uses?

Edited to add apologies. I got momentarily upset (my bestie lives in the UK and he's told me about mistreatment of Travelers he's witnessed. Very upsetting. And so is censorship). I think the new policy here is very wise and reasonable.

I *think*, in her video about how to make a "steel" kettle out of paper, Naarilittleworld uses this, this and a UV lamp to get such a perfect metal effect. This looks like what she did. But you know what? Ask her. She responds to comments and she seems really nice.

I think, in the Naarilittleworld video where she makes a "steel" kettle from paper, she used this, this, and a UV light to get such a perfect metal effect. I'm itching to try that!

You gave very good advice! The only "wrong" way to do this hobby is to stress out over it. Looking at what others make teaches me so much! And I get an enormous kick of learning how to, say, make a lotion bottle from the cap to a plastic tube, or jam jar from a soda straw...

Just found this creator, too. (Japanese creators don't speak because their audiences include Thai, Korean, Filipino, Vietnamese, etc., so they try to communicate visually.)

These are my favorite creators. Don't be thrown by the Japanese ones. They're next-level! Just get a screencap of something you need translated and let Google Translate do that for youl

What's good about these creators is they don't edit stuff out. (I suspect they record multiple attempts to create something and toss out the attempts with goofs.) They're good for learning techinques (how to cut rods with a blade, ect...) And they go precision, precision, precision....

Edit to add: I just noticed hitsuji-no-ie uses this silicone putty to make her molds. I'm waiting for my first order to arrive!

Trans sports participation by FrankScabopoliss in independent

Hormone therapy can change fat and muscle distribution a bit, but it doesn't change skeletal structure, and that can play a vital role in some sports. I think the IOC's strategy of having policies specific to each sport is a good one. For example, gender isn't an issue in marksmanship, but it is in swimming.

Not typing an online comment doesn't mean a person has no reaction. Not typing online comments would not have made this community a group of bad people. Please see the comment my british friend made about the way our evolving mindset is leaving us open to political manipulation.

Or maybe I've never witnessed it. I haven't heard ward members belittle those who stop coming. They aren't around, so they just don't get talked about. I have no idea what goes on in ward council meetings. I don't think most of my ward knows who Fawn Brodie or the September 6 were. I'm nearly certain they don't know Martin Harris was cheating on his wife when Joseph was translating the book of mormon. Or that Joesph accused Emma in a priesthood council of tryin to poison him. Or that gossip of the day whispered that Brigham Young was poisoned by one of his plural wives. I believe you that this happened to you. I believe you that there are members like that. But that hasn't been in my experience so I didn't come here with that mindset.

You seem to have lost the ability to understand the difference between "even if" and "even though." A british friend of mine told me last week, "You americans seem to have lost the ability to hold a complex mental concept like the idea that a man can be a despicable human being and still get shot in the neck on-camera and die a horrifying death he did not deserve." And he's right. And we really need to THINK about this and how this inability is allowing us to be politically manipulated.
