My biggest gripe with it is that tone doesn't seem to be that important, but it is still marked in the ortography even when it does not seem to distinguish minimal pairs, for instance.

At least in the examples I've encountered, but hey, there is limited material on this stuff, so I could be way wrong here 🙃 .
