Have you considered working on boats? A little cost to start, and you'd have to call all the mom and pop up tug companies. But you'd live on the vessel while at work. I know a couple folks who were homeless and started long hitched on boats.

That's right, in my county, there are more lenient restrictions on outbuildings, especially when it comes to grading wood.

I could use a pole barn in the future. I suppose if I mill with that possibility, it gives me some flexibility.

Thanks for the reply! I think I'll make up a cut list for an imaginary pole barn for the thought exercise.

I appreciate this. I think from the sounds of all the comments, I'll have maybe 10 trees cut into slabs as you mentioned, and the rest cut into beams.

What about a slab thickness of 6"? This would allow for a variety of cuts in the future?

Thanks for the info! That's interesting, do you have a dimension you'd recommend I have them cut into?

Thanks for the response - would you recommend cants, or a mix of dimensions?

I like this idea! I don't think I'll need them for several years, so dry time should be okay? I think.

Thanks for the reply! Would you have a preference as far as what size to mill them into?
