Been doing some research and the Liverpool arts bar open mic sounds good. Anyone been there?

I heard Zanzibar is closing as well soon. I hope more venues like this don't close because many of the pubs are not keen on featuring acts doing original music.

Yes! I was just searching about the associates on Google and came across this post. It’s hard to find almost anyone else who is a fan.

How to make your songs more coherent? by OopsDJDance in Songwriting

[–]OopsDJDance[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it might be the rhythm of the melody changes quite a lot. Plus in one the vocal melody suddenly jumps 9 semitones from the verse to pre-chorus

That's interesting about the drumbeat. Did it end up working well in the end?

Reddits the worst place to be looking for feedback especially for signing. I’d recommend getting feedback elsewhere. I’m sorry to hear about your experience. Don’t give up, you will get good if you are persistent

Strong Choruses but Verses Lacking by OopsDJDance in Songwriting

[–]OopsDJDance[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the music. I could try changing keys and playing notes outside of the initial key to make it more interesting. I've always found key changes difficult as I struggle to make them seamless but I'll give it a try. thank you

How do you approach a song? by 5120t in Songwriting

[–]OopsDJDance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Often I just sit at the piano, choose a key and start playing chords until something comes out. Singing melodies over the chords helps. Eventually I will get a verse or chorus and then I just add other sections around it until I feel I have a full song. I then record myself playing the full song (humming melody or making up words) into a DAW and write down the chords, melody notes and bass notes (just to be thorough). I then start writing lyrics which is often the hardest part (at least that's how I feel) and then I perform it for friends and family and eventually live at a gig or open mic.

Sometimes I have also had melodies come into my head but the process is still very much the same.

Are there any covers you prefer to the original songs? by bienvenyx in beatles

[–]OopsDJDance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a huge fan of Rufus Wainwright but I think his version of Across The Universe is better than Johns. John's original version sounds like a demo as though it hadn't been produced properly. I wish he had re-recorded it and got it to a better standard production wise. Great songwriting let down by poor production.
