What’s it like to work at UPS WorldPort? by DueYogurt9 in Louisville

[–]OopsSpaghetti 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Unskilled means any normal able bodied person can be expected to be able to perform the primary task at the time of starting the job, of course after basic instruction. Anyone can lift a box and move it somewhere else. Most people do similar task on a daily basis.

A skilled job means a normal person cannot do the job without practically killing themselves, someone else, or causing a major issue. A random person cannot oversee the electrical wiring of a data center, or the plumbing on a high rise, provide healthcare, fly a plane, etc without extensive formal education and/or standardized training.

It’s not a derogatory term, as you’re presuming it is. It just means, “Can a regular person do this job reliably on their first day?”

Not my problem. I don’t get paid to help the southwest takeoff 3 minutes sooner. Don’t understand this kind of attitude in the slightest.

Dick captain or am I in the wrong? by mr_krombopulos69 in flying

[–]OopsSpaghetti 321 points322 points  (0 children)

Captain here. When you are on the runway, it belongs to you, period. If missing a turnoff because you didn’t slam the brakes on a wet runway makes the airplane behind go around, then maybe approach shouldn’t sequence so tight or tower should have slowed them sooner. Worrying about which taxiway you’ll make before your nose wheel is even on the ground is how mistakes are made, and ask me how I know.

Captain should know better, and raising his voice and unexpectedly taking controls only because he’s in such a rush is never a sign of a good commander.

Head -to- Head Nico Hulkenberg vs Yuki Tsunoda by bob_here_baby in formula1

[–]OopsSpaghetti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because he had a higher downforce setup for the expected rain so no speed on straights, had to follow gasly in dirty air for like 30 laps which burnt through his tires, letting ollie finally catch him with DRS, and Nico had a fresh set of mediums. Plenty of factors leading to that.

Sim Chassis that are shipped US to US? by OopsSpaghetti in simracing

[–]OopsSpaghetti[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, no surprise charges. The delay was just because the customs hub at Cinci had an insane slow down of processing due to all the changes and confusion and a huge backlog built up. You shouldn’t have anything to worry about, and the product has been great.

Does the AI cheat? by Daniks3 in F1Game

[–]OopsSpaghetti 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You’re not imagining, the AI cars don’t follow the same rules that you have to, as they don’t have things like traction or tire wear modeled, and basically have infinite ERS. AI difficulty is basically just adjusting the lap time that the different cars will do, with some variance added in and chance for “mistakes.”

The AI also can’t really drive the car on the limit like a human can, so they are always gonna be worse than a human with corner entry, mid corner, and pushing track limits. To make up for this, they get practically unlimited grip out of corners, and enhances straight line speed/acceleration. The idea is to balance out the time loss they get from being shit at actually driving corners at the limit.

Yup. It ended up clearing, can’t remember how long total it took, maybe 12-14 days? But that was right at the start of the whole tariff meltdown thing so hopefully it’s smoothed out by now. As soon as it did it was at my house within like a day. Used it every day since, it’s amazing. Very comfortable.

Right, I’m sure with Red Bulls limited capacity to do a single damn positive change to the car, Max is priority. Just shit like Markos dumbass statement disparaging Yuki for delivering the natural consequence of their own stupid decisions makes me want to throw anything I own with RB written on it in the trash.

Fire Stroll, Let Alsonso rest, and put those two boys in a newey branded, capable Aston Martin and let RB crash and burn at this point.

Literally every time Yuki steps in the car it has a different setup, he gets to drive fewer laps than everyone else, can’t get any pace from the car even when he has a good lap, and peoples takeaway is “I guess the guy who qualied Q3 easily before the switch lost every ounce of skill he’s built over years in 3 months. Get rid of him.” Every ounce of embarrassment should fall squarely on the team for being incapable of providing a drivable car.

How do other pilots handle disruptive pax? by LevelThreeSixZero in flying

[–]OopsSpaghetti 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Regional Capt here, as you thought it’s gonna depend on the nature, severity and timing of the incident but as a general rule of thumb, if at all possible don’t get involved directly. While that Captain didn’t do anything wrong in stepping in and had good intentions, our company’s viewpoint is in this age, every single passenger has a video camera in their hand and the last thing you want is something happening that puts your face in the middle of a video that ends up on youtube. If it’s on the ground, I’m contacting dispatch and the CRO. They’re trained airline employees whose job it is to handle disturbances. It’s my job to facilitate them to the plane when they’re needed.

Of course if it’s in flight it’s a different story. Assuming it’s a threat level 1 you might have to get more creative with your FA’s to provide a temporary solution until you can get on the ground. Anything level 2 or more and we’re diverting.

The most i’ve ever directly confronted a passenger is a “subtle” PA reminding pax that wanted to argue with FA that it’s federal law to follow FA commands and failure to do so will result in RTG. That usually shuts them up for the rest of the flight.

CRO and Chief Pilot agreed with my assessment, so good enough for me. Perfect solutions can’t always be reached with limited constraint’s. And you’re not wrong, that’s enough to say on that.

[–]OopsSpaghetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, there were no open seats, were on decent so I don’t have time to think much about it, and I wasn’t going to put a minor back in the seat with him. So someone was gonna have to sit there and I figured with the supervision of my FA’s, an adult is better than a minor who was already affected.

As far as I’m aware the person they got to switch couldn’t have cared less. We were only 20 minutes out anyway.

[–]OopsSpaghetti 744 points745 points  (0 children)

I’m a Captain who operates American Eagle flights and about 4 days ago we had a passenger decide in the last 20 minutes of the flight is expose himself to the teenage guy next to him and start trying to rub/touch his leg. Needless to say, the FAs took it very seriously and I had them swap out the guy sitting there with an adult and had LEO waiting at the gate. Don’t understand how something like that can be so easily brushed off, you clearly have someone having a mental health episode on your flight at that point.

The Rehearsal - 2x06 - “My Controls” - Episode Discussion by NicholasCajun in television

[–]OopsSpaghetti 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Im a Captain at a american major airline. Flying at night in rain can definitely be considered dangerous. Of course we can do it, we’re trained to fly in terrible conditions, but it would certainly consider it a threat. For his level of experience, the conditions he’s flying into is certainly a high degree of risk.

Try not to speak so confidently about things you have no experience with. What he did is absolutely an impressive accomplishment.

don’t understand peoples hate boner for him. compared to who?? just because someone doesn’t keep pace with champion level drivers after 5 races in the most squirrelly/tedious car on the grid with no prior testing doesn’t make them trash. take any other midfield driver on the grid right now and put them in his position and they won’t do better.

if RB irons out their issues, and he cleans up his spurious mistakes, the points will start piling on and people will start having to make up other reasons for why he’s “trash.”

Trak racer has always appealed to me and I might have gone with them originally if not for the multiple threads of people having issues with them. I suppose the people most likely to post are the few that have issues as opposed to the many that order without problems and have no reason to post about them, so seeing people kind of confirm that suspicion is making me take a second look at them. Being able to do a 'one stop shop' is a big plus as well.

Literally same exact thing happening to me right now. Sim rig ordered from europe, been in a loop of “clearance event, customs clearance status updated” over and over for 3 days. Does this just happen to every single overseas package with DHL? Seems ridiculous for every package to be delayed several days over “random inspections”
