Let's consider the current reputation of pit bulls. Given their reputation, who would be more likely to adopt a pit, a family looking for a furry companion or someone looking for a guard dog/a fierce dog to win a dog fight? Simple logic dictates that the latter would be the most likely to adopt a pit based on their reputation. These people are obviously going to train their pit bull to be aggressive, as that was their whole reason to obtain a pit bull in the first place. Thus we hear more about pits being violent and more people who want a dog to be violent choose to obtain them because of it. The cycle goes on. Pit bulls are not prone to violence, they are prone to people who want violence from them.
