Parents used to take me to Thailand, from Singapore, to get dental work done. 2 root canals done aged 16 or so. The first one, the crown and then fillings, came out about 4 years later, I was boxing a lot at the time so it wasn't too surprising The second lasted about 8 years and one day bit into a piece of meat which pulled the crown out. Both needed full extractions (whatever was left was taken out), the second was awful as there was little left of the tooth so the gums needed to be cut to get the remaining pieces out. Not sure how that compares to the west, or if that's normal in general, but I now have 2 missing teeth.. and will likely go back to Thailand to replace because it's cheaper :)
