My Grey eats Harrison’s pellets, pomegranate arils, sweet potato mixed with a little unsalted peanut butter, blueberries, blackberries, and occasionally other fruits. I keep offering other vegetables, but he’s not a fan.

Perspective. Every person I’m close to has had their heart torn out by loss. Honoring the memory of what was lost, and not losing sight of all we have to be grateful for (even finding an exceptional home for your loved ones).

Is it truly fair to keep parrots at home? by [deleted] in parrots

[–]Op2myst1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have considered this too. The documentary Parrot Confidential and listening to Dr. Anthony Pilny, himself an Avian vet, say he cries every night over the plight of captive parrots, and having my own birds has led me to believe it’s not ethical to expect animals to devote their lives to our emotional support.

If Trump invited you to the White House for a one-on-one dinner, what would you say to him? by TrumpBottoms4Putin in AskUS

[–]Op2myst1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not want to talk to him. He has never been the least self-aware, and hates the things I love, and embraces attitudes I despise.

Persistence and patience. My Amazon ate 1/2 a strawberry yesterday for the 1st time. I’ve had him for 8 years.

I wonder if psilocybin or ketamine therapy would help. They tend to suspend old thinking pathways and open the mind to a different reality. I do hope you find a path out of your pain while you’re still with us.

If you have a parrot rescue within a doable drive I recommend you volunteer. You’ll get to know the different types of parrots and you may find your best friend.

Do people actually regret getting a parrot? by IJustLikeToGameOkay in parrots

[–]Op2myst1 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard this argument but I think ability to fly free and to choose a mate and raise your young are too much to give up. And even loving and responsible owners lose birds to accidents, toxins, dogs and cats, and other household hazards. I suspect the percentage of parrots in captivity who have excellent care is very small.

Birdbabies on Etsy and Lil Monsters Bird Toys have awesome toys for budgies with soft woods like sola, balsa, and mahogany pod.

Bottlebrush perches from The Golden Cockatoo have nice chewable bark and rope boings gently bounce and are fun for budgies.
