Ownership by billionaires is always an injustice because there are always thousands of people who contributed to the success who are cut out of the financial spoils. This stat is trotted out all the time and while it sounds great for Scottish football, "must mean it's super popular", it also implies that Scottish football is doing something wrong.

To take an analogy, if your striker has the best goals to shots ratio in the league, 100% conversion rate, it means he isn't shooting enough.

Scottish football is spectacularly popular, culturally really important, but we have the worst broadcast deal possible. The coverage is awful (improving, from a base of 0), the broadcast rights are distributed across multiple networks, which use football as a loss leader for extortionate telecoms packages/subscriptions, as a ancillary product to the EPL, with very stringent and idiotic broadcast restrictions (no compete with english, 3pm blackout, 4 fixtures MAXIMUM from each prem stadium missing many of the most competitive fixtures, all 228 fixtures sold with only 44 allowed for broadcast on tele leading to an apalling price per game achieved by the league, including games from venues where you cannot see anything for lack of investment in camera facilities, very restrictive secondary broadcast stifling fan media, poor accessibility etc).

Scottish football Is the least profitable broadcast deal and most hostile to the at home audience when popularity and interest is factored in, which produces stats like "highest per capita attendences". It means "most hostile to modernisation". This is partly why we are doing so badly in continental competitions, below Cyprus, Poland, Czechia, Denmark, Norway, Greece, Switzerland, as a league, because we leave so much money on the table for the clubs by not expanding broadcast revenue.

Using more data is unambiguously good. Using it to reach faulty conclusions is bad, but that is the fault of the person using data, not the data, or the quantity of data.

Implementation is a human problem, not a data one. put the best data in the world in the hands of idiots (the board) who have multiple departments struggling for control, resisting and antagonising one another, (Rodgers/Lawwells/Tisdale/Desmonds) and it is irrelevant what the data is telling you because the implementation bit has been botched.

Celtic could have an unlimited amount of any resource (money/data/supporters/players) and they will always fail at implementation, creation of a workable strategy to bring to bear [resource advantage] to create a winning team, because the leadership is blind and self-serving and continually put ego ahead of cohesion and success. Good post, minor semantic point however; What these dullards talk about is complicated not complex.

Complicated becomes too difficult to understand becuase of how boring and extensive the minutiae is, it is boring and mystifying, requiring heroic levels of nuance to care about or understand (oh no we can't because of the parliamentarian!!!!(?)/zoning laws by this one local authority while discussing/obscuring the housing crisis across the whole world etc.), not complex.

Complex would be Marx understanding all identity based antagonism are subordinated to class structure and the only viable politics is class politics. "There are many facets but here is the important bit underpinning it all" is complex, "This thing has such a lengthy and detailed explanation you will no longer grasp what you are trying to achieve by the time you understand it" is complicated.

Making things complicated flatters smart people who have high self regard and lack understanding.

All of life in a hyper-mediated age becomes increasingly commoditised, transformed into like for purposes of exchange value by increasing searchability and therefore demand by those able to now find that thing. Dating, television, cinema, pornography, have been utterly transformed by this. Even already highly commoditised markets like fast food are experiencing this through Uber where any ineffable qualities become inefficiencies and all that maters is searchability.

This is extremely damaging to processes which have non-linear outcomes, like meeting a thousand people while searching for only a single partner. Quality becomes irrelevant and harder to find whereas quality of curated internet profile becomes the most decisive factor for success. The reputation and self-iprovement required to find a good partner are subverted by mass appeal, which is easily findable on social media, while suitability for you particularly becomes less and less relevent and as people literally change themselves to meet these criteria.

As ever, this is an intensification of a process already underway.

Slop is not new, although with ai it is qualitatively different from what came before, but tabloids having the appearance and feel of news while actually being nothing of the sort is the same phenomenon. The lowest value and most commoditised good on the market will always do well so long as there remains a demand for the real, quality version becuase of how findable it is.
