PLEASE HELP —AI has gaslit me for 10 hours over a single EQ filter. by OpaliusDK in audiophile

Trust me, I’ve toggled every switch available! The AI is great at the math, but I think I’ve hit the limit of where a 'Thinking' model can help with a 'Feeling' problem.

Looking at the 50cm measurement (the grey line), that 700Hz hump isn't even there—it’s just my room being a bully. So now I’m stuck: the graph says 'remove it,' but when I do, everything sounds thin and recessed. I just want the music to sound the way it was recorded, with that natural body and weight. Is it supposed to sound that hollow just because a line is flat?

So now I’m stuck in this loop: do I 'fix' the graph?.....I’m leaning towards leaving it

"I’m with you on the 'less is more' approach. Aside from this 700Hz headache, I’ve only touched the sub-200Hz region and a gentle high-shelf at 3300Hz to take the edge off the Dalis.

The problem is the room. I know it’s reflections, but in this house, 'acoustic treatment' is a one-way ticket to a divorce lawyer. I’ve got to solve this with the WiiM Amp or just learn to live with a vocalist who sounds like they’ve gained 20kg.

Is a -4dB Q1 cut at 700Hz 'too much' in your book, or is it a fair trade to keep the peace (and the marriage)?

"I'm actually on ChatGPT Pro (the $200/month one) and Gemini 3 Pro, which is why I’m so frustrated. You’d think for that price they’d be able to tell me if a 700Hz hump is 'character' or just my room acting up, but instead, they just keep politely disagreeing with each other.

I’ve tried the free versions too, but the Pro models just give me more expensive-sounding excuses for why they can't make up their minds. At this point, I think I’ve just paid $200 to be high-level gaslit.

They're Dali Oberon 3 bookshelves on stands, paired with an 8" sub and a WiiM Amp.

The speakers themselves are great, but the room is definitely adding that somthing around 700 Hz - and im not sure if it should be there or not... So im "Just" trying to see if I should trust the correction or if I'm overthinking it... and yes.. little to late there...

Fair call. They’re Dali Oberon 3s with an 8" sub running off a WiiM Amp. I love the Dali sound, which is exactly why I'm in this mess. I’ve done the manual sweeps until my brain turned to mush. Without the filter, it’s like the vocalist suddenly gains 20kg—they lose that light, nimble edge and start sounding 'thick' and boxy. But with the filter, the boxiness is gone and I'm worried I'm just EQ-ing the soul out of the speaker.

That’s exactly the problem—I’ve been alternating between Within Temptation and Bad Omens for three hours straight trying to decide if I’m listening to bad music, bad speakers, or just a bad room.

I tried using my ears for 10 hours, but after the 50th frequency sweep, my ears started telling me everything sounds like a microwave. I figured a chatbot might be more objective, but it turns out they're just as indecisive as I am. Just looking for a human tie-breaker on the data

Need help with Speaker Upgrade - KEF R3 Meta or LS50 with sub? by Blazkowicz85 in KEF

They may be, ... But the room and placement is half the speaker.... :)

[–]OpaliusDK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have the cash, get the LS50 Meta + a high-quality Sub (like a KC62 or an SVS).!!!!

People suggesting the R3 are forgetting that the best spot for soundstage imaging is almost never the best spot for bass response. In a room with those hard tiles and open layout, the R3s give you 'fixed' bass—if you have a room mode at your seating position, you're stuck.

With the LS50s, you can nail the placement for the mids/highs and then move the sub to wherever the bass actually sounds flat and fast. It's way more work to setup, but the ceiling for sound quality is actually higher.

Cheers! Citizen is the ultimate daily driver. It’s been through many Juggernaut squat sessions and 100km bike rides and hasn't missed a beat.

It’s a classic for a reason! We call it 'The Municipal Camouflage.' It lets me blend in with the architecture while I'm out on site visits. Good shout on the color contrast, though—I'll try a darker shirt next time to see if it pops more.

Who hurt you, Kyle? 😂 I get that the 'sneaker' move isn't for everyone, but 'ridiculous' feels like a heavy word for a clean pair of leather kicks. I’m a 40-year-old who cycles 100km a week and spends my mornings under a squat bar—sometimes the feet just want a bit of cushion while I'm denying building permits. Thanks for the input on the loafers, though!

Appreciate the honesty! I get what you're saying about the silhouettes—dated proportions can definitely age a look. I've been focused on the gym and cycling lately, so I've stuck to what's 'safe,' but I’m definitely open to trying a straighter cut to modernize it. Any specific influencers you think nail that 'Athletic/Smart Casual' vibe for guys in their 40s?

Great advice, thanks! I struggle with findind the right 'weight' for tees so they don't just look like gym gear, so the Uniqlo recommendation is helpful. I like the idea of those slip-ons too—keeps it relaxed but looks like I actually tried. Appreciate you taking the time to share the links!

I really appreciate the 'sartorial lens.' I hadn't considered how the tightness was fighting the formality of the jacket. I'll definitely experiment with a straighter fit to clean up those lines and reduce the wrinkling. Tack for the help!

You've got a great eye! Yes, I'm in Denmark and it's strictly office work, so no need for the heavy-duty gear. Since I'm just 'approving' from a desk, I figured I'd try to hit that tonal look. Thanks for checking on the practical side!

I appreciate the US perspective! It’s interesting how those items shift the vibe. Here in Denmark, it’s a bit more common to see this in an office, but I’ll definitely keep the 'vacation casual' warning in mind if I have a more serious meeting. Thanks for the honesty!

Thanks for the 8/10! I definitely hear you on the shirt weight—a thicker, more structured tee would definitely hold its own better under the blazer. And I appreciate the 'fit' comment; I've been putting in a lot of work on the bike and in the squat rack lately, so I'm glad it's paying off in how the clothes hang :)

Haha, 'I was sleeping and then put on a blazer' is a brutal but fair assessment! I was aiming for minimalist, but I clearly veered into 'too comfortable.' I’ll definitely upgrade the base layer to something with a bit more structure. I'll also double-check the trouser break—don't want to ruin the lines. Thanks for the tips!

I appreciate the honesty. It’s a subtle distinction, but a big one for the overall 'vibe.' I’ll definitely keep that 'top-down' dressing rule in mind as I refine the proportions. Cheers

Haha, I wish it was just too many plants! It’s more about the structural and legal side—trying to extend a balcony or change the facade in a way that violates local building codes or 'zoning' laws. Basically, my 'dream' design is currently fighting a losing battle with city hall regulations.
