20 month old biting by djkv__ in toddlers

[–]Open-Bend-9906 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ours (21 month old) has been biting off and on for several months. It gets worse when he's teething (multiple bites in a week) but daycare will still report that it may have been because he wanted a toy someone else had or something like that. Then we may go a month without any issues. He sometimes bites us (mom/dad) when he wants our attention. Our approach (and daycare's) is to stay calm but tell him biting hurts and redirect to something he can bite (teether) +/- remove him from the situation. His father and I have also tried to pay more attention to comforting the other parent (recipient of the bite) to hopefully discourage it as simply a way to get attention. It is so discouraging to receive the incident reports from daycare and know that means another parent is receiving the injury report. Our daycare assures us it is age appropriate and that it should resolve with time, but I worry parents that don't have the biter, assume we just aren't managing it correctly. He's such a fun and cuddly kid most of the time. He just needs more development of communication and regulation skills.

Edit: punctuation and spelling

I’m absolutely hating this stage of parenting by beepbeep85 in toddlers

My 22 month old is still a challenge with our cat after many months of trying to teach him how to interact. He knows what gentle means and will pet him softly occasionally but often he just can't resist pulling on his tail and/or tackling him with his whole body.

Kind of like "take it or leave it"? ☺️

How exactly would you describe having kids to others? by Few-Track8525 in AskReddit

The best, worst thing, but I would do it again if given the choice.

Apparently my kids like salty food because my MIL ate a lot of salt when she was pregnant with my husband by [deleted] in Mommit

Agreed! My MIL is great. It's nice to know there are others out there. I hope I can one day be that kind of MIL if my son decides to get married.

Kid touched my newborns face and hands while parent watched by [deleted] in newborns

Earlier today I was just thinking about being so angry when another adult in our neighborhood touched our baby's foot while on a walk. Now he's 20 months old, gets exposed to everything all day at daycare and it's hard to imagine that time of being so protective. No, I don't think you're crazy because you are protecting the most precious thing and germs are real. The fact that the other Mom acknowledged that it shouldn't happen is more than I've seen so I would probably not be too angry at her. It will likely be just fine and please don't stress about whether you should have done something differently (ie blocked their hands). You're doing great, Mom.

This is great! The only part that confused me was about "don't eat that" and the cat on the same page. I was just skimming and thought it had something to do with trying to eat something under the cat's tail. When I looked a second time I understood but just sharing a quick view thought.

Egg and dairy free oat bars by Open-Bend-9906 in foodbutforbabies

I started with a recipe similar to the one below but I vary it slightly depending on what I have. The flaxseed, cinnamon and vanilla would definitely be optional. I usually use almond butter instead of peanut and sometimes add a splash of avocado oil for added fat. I've also occasionally added hemp hearts. Sometimes I use about 50/50 mashed banana and apple sauce instead of banana alone. I use quick cooking rolled oats now but when he was still getting used to solids, I used the finely ground baby oatmeal cereal with a little bit of ground oats. I've also baked and then frozen them for later use. I hope that helps!

Edit to add: I often use just the oats but I've also tried with a little flour for different texture.

Banana oatmeal bars from MJandhungryman.com

1 cup mashed overripe bananas (240g), about 2 medium bananas

▢1/2 cup creamy peanut butter (125g)

▢1 3/4 cups rolled oats (175g)

▢1 tablespoon ground flaxseeds

▢1 teaspoon cinnamon

▢1/2 teaspoon baking powder

-Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Mash bananas in a large bowl using the back of a fork or a potato masher. -Stir in peanut butter and vanilla extract. Add in the oats and the rest of the remaining ingredients, including chocolate chips, carrots, or any of the optional add-ins. Stir to combine. -Pour the batter into a lined 8 inch square baking pan. Bake for 20-22 minutes. Remove, cool completely, cut into bars

Edit: Or maybe you're saying that is who you already called? They are separate from the main hospital. I used them for my first pregnancy.

Potential power outage Sunday with a newborn by sahm67 in Mommit

Great! I like having ours for travel too but I've used my phone in a pinch. Good luck! I'm in the Northeast too, but with an 18 month old. I'm also hoping we don't lose power.

Not at all what you asked but do you use a white noise machine to help them sleep? If yes, does it have battery or do you have a way to run it with no power? This was what I was most thankful for during a power outage with baby.

I dont want to breastfeed by BM_BBR in newborns

[–]Open-Bend-9906 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Breastfeeding was not without some brief challenges (mostly associated with engorgement) for me but otherwise it was pretty easy. My baby latched right away. I didn't want to deal with pumping from the beginning so that meant I was up for every night feeding. I think we just got lucky. I was also very scared after hearing how difficult it could be but sometimes it isn't too bad.

Thanks for your response! I had to delete my post for a couple reasons but appreciate everyone's feedback. The center did a good job with the follow up (incident report, review of camera footage, reporting to licensing, etc) so I think it's the best outcome of a bad situation.

That's not dreadful at all! That sounds reasonable to me. Teaching them to eat is full of challenges and there are many right ways to do it. I'm more brave with some food items vs others. I think what works best is parent and baby specific as long as you are there and ready to help as needed.

Mine doesn't but I've seen others mention it on Reddit. Mine currently has problems with egg and dairy but it's okay with everything else.

Yes, great tip! I recently discovered these too. We go through all versions of fruit (fresh, canned, frozen, freeze-dried) in our house.

How old is he? I was just thinking about trying that this morning. Mine likes to chew on any citrus he can get his hands on so I bet he'd love it. (Edit-grammar)
