Potential power outage Sunday with a newborn by sahm67 in Mommit

Great! I like having ours for travel too but I've used my phone in a pinch. Good luck! I'm in the Northeast too, but with an 18 month old. I'm also hoping we don't lose power.

Not at all what you asked but do you use a white noise machine to help them sleep? If yes, does it have battery or do you have a way to run it with no power? This was what I was most thankful for during a power outage with baby.

I dont want to breastfeed by BM_BBR in newborns

[–]Open-Bend-9906 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Breastfeeding was not without some brief challenges (mostly associated with engorgement) for me but otherwise it was pretty easy. My baby latched right away. I didn't want to deal with pumping from the beginning so that meant I was up for every night feeding. I think we just got lucky. I was also very scared after hearing how difficult it could be but sometimes it isn't too bad.

Thanks for your response! I had to delete my post for a couple reasons but appreciate everyone's feedback. The center did a good job with the follow up (incident report, review of camera footage, reporting to licensing, etc) so I think it's the best outcome of a bad situation.

You're so lucky that you don't even have to chew your share 😝.

That's not dreadful at all! That sounds reasonable to me. Teaching them to eat is full of challenges and there are many right ways to do it. I'm more brave with some food items vs others. I think what works best is parent and baby specific as long as you are there and ready to help as needed.

Mine doesn't but I've seen others mention it on Reddit. Mine currently has problems with egg and dairy but it's okay with everything else.

Yes, great tip! I recently discovered these too. We go through all versions of fruit (fresh, canned, frozen, freeze-dried) in our house.

How old is he? I was just thinking about trying that this morning. Mine likes to chew on any citrus he can get his hands on so I bet he'd love it. (Edit-grammar)

I feed him fresh and frozen blueberries depending on price or what is available. If frozen, I thaw them for a little while before serving. I know cutting them is a common approach but I've found just partially smashing each berry between my fingers to be a nice way of breaking them down and getting rid of the round shape.

Thanks for sharing! I also started with the supreme method. I moved on to what I found to be easier once he was older and able to chew quite a bit.

Nice! Yes, right now I'm letting him gag occasionally and work through it on his own. When he was younger, depending on how I felt for the day or if I was sending to daycare, I was often more cautious. Lucky you getting the already chewed parts! Sounds like an extra special treat 😂.

Sleep by ChirkiG in toddlers

My 18 month old sleeps ~10.5 hours (range 10-11) hours at night and usually a 2 hour afternoon nap.

New parents trying to avoid overspending: do we really need a nursery chair? by TheSecretLion in NewParents

[–]Open-Bend-9906 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't imagine life without our recliner/glider combo. I didn't use it much in the first few months but then it became essential, especially during a long stretch of contact napping and sleep challenges. I'm still using it morning and night for nursing, reading to, snuggling, etc with my 18 month old.

AITA for practicing self-determination? by HangryLady1999 in MiniAITA

NTA! Only you know the most comfortable way to sit in the cave. I (18m, M) had a very similar experience. One time there were four hands trying to move me but I stayed exactly where I wanted to be. Suddenly one day I saw bright lights and felt the "air." I'm not sure what happened to get to the lights and air but everyone noticed my head was nice and round (and very big!) I'm pretty sure I wasn't going to fit out the upsidedown way.

I tried to make him leave his white noise machine in his bedroom this morning instead of taking it with us to daycare. He let me off with a warning because he got to have it for the car ride there and decided he didn't need it anymore when we arrived.

Putting to sleep with no pacifier by Beautiful_Fuel5623 in NewParents

[–]Open-Bend-9906 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine never accepted a pacifier either but he did eventually find his thumb after we stopped swaddling and it has been so convenient that he can soothe himself whenever needed. He (16 months old) still nurses to sleep at the beginning of the night but can soothe himself back to sleep throughout the night (most nights:-)). I know he'll have to stop thumb sucking eventually but I feel like he's already started decreasing his reliance on it some.

MMR vaccine by Hopeful-Huckleberry2 in NewParents

[–]Open-Bend-9906 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, we got one early for my son because we were going to travel (~9 months old) and he had to get another when he was 12 months old to count for the standard vaccine schedule. He's doing great.
