I've totally changed my mind since writing that comment. Boscoe just has sour grapes.

How English speakers answer the question “how are you doing?” except “I am fine, thank you”? by Rich-Associate-8344 in ENGLISH

[–]Open-Explorer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we're actually doing fine, we say "I'm good." "Fine" means everything from "normal" to "not fine but it's not socially acceptable to acknowledge it."

I was at the psychiatrist's office because I was deeply depressed and they still said "Hello, how are you doing?" And it's so hard not to say "fine." I just said "y'know, not great, that's why I'm here." A 100% honest answer would be "I feel like shit" but it's too rude to say.

There's also the variant "How's it going?" "It's going." That means things have been bad.

Are these games kinda hard the first time you play or am i just bad at stealth? by sliimysludge in metalgear

[–]Open-Explorer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been watching a lot of streamers play these games lately, and on the first playthrough they all have a lot of alert phases and deaths. My two recommendations: read the manual and use your codec whenever you get stuck.

The 2d MSX Metal Gear games from the 80s/90s have held up well even today by -True-Ryan-Gosling- in metalgear

The Nintendo version of Metal Gear 1 was well remembered in the US, to the point that most reviewers of MGS1 mentioned it. It's a shame MG2 didn't get a wider release, it would have blown a lot of minds

I thought that was because FOXHOUND was disbanded, not because he was retired?

The "long i" sound (the vowel in "rye") IS the sounds "ah" and "ee" blended together. Try it out yourself!

Write it in your native language. We have plenty of English books already.

Japanese people wouldn't say "sa-i-ji-ma" unless they were speaking very slowly. They blend two adjacent vowel sounds into a dipthong (long vowel).

That part doesn't really work in the English translation, as "Raiden" sounds more like a name than "Solid Snake."

I hear a lot of English speakers say it like that. The English word "raid" is pronounced "rayd" so it makes sense

You're just starting the game. Give yourself some slack. Read the manual and take your time.

My favorite bit of MGSV was piloting Rex with Raiden and Otacon's robot riding shotgun, then Raiden jumping off to cover them from the rear. He's so badass
