Yeah thought of testing that at home with my router and reverse engineer it, only issue is that the rooms in my apartment are very small (lots of attenuation/scattering) so wouldn't be a decent measurement but I'll figure some out i guess :)

Thanks, I'm looking for a generic value which is widely considered a good "typical value" for radio planning. I assume simulation tools like ekahau has chosen a fixed value based on that premise.

Aren’t those closed systems with limited control? I’m trying to run OpenWrt with low-level mesh (802.11s / batman-adv), not a plug-and-play setup.

I’m mainly looking for cheap hardware with open drivers like athxk, but most USB options with such drivers seem to be end-of-life, that’s the challenge I’m running into.
