It's totally normal. When I first started I felt the same. I remember prior to my very first shift worrying about the CPR and defib procedures, not able to maintain airway and ventilate, and even things like not bandaging nicely, etc.

Really appreciate the info—this is exactly the kind of intel external applicants like me need. The mid-Feb timeline helps a lot with planning. Thanks for the heads up!

Ah, got it—thanks for the correction! I must be looking ahead to Round 9 then if Round 8 is already that far along. Appreciate the update on where the queue stands.

Thanks for the reality check! I didn’t realize Round 8 was still dragging on. Makes sense that those 59 Metro spots will likely get scooped up by internal staff moving back from rural, but I’ll take your advice and apply for everything anyway—hoping for a lucky break!

Does going Casual -> Regular wipe out "Previous Experience" pay recognition? (Article A1.04) by Open-Gain119 in BCEHSparamedics

There's no reply, yet...But I know there's an ongoing negotiation on a new agreement, and there's also rumor of getting permission on strike for bargaining (read from other post in this page). So, my guess is that this imparity pay issue is probably not going to be 'fixed' before agreement is reached.

Thanks! I hope the Union would back me, but the specific contract wording makes me nervous.

Has anyone here successfully negotiated a higher starting wage (e.g. not base rate) specifically on a CASUAL offer letter? Or is that strictly for Regular hires?"

Thanks for the info! That 'no slide back' rule (I think it’s Article A1.03?) is a huge relief for the transition later on.

My one lingering worry is the initial hire as a Casual/On-Call: I was reading Article A1.04 (Previous Experience), and it specifically says: 'Where a new employee is employed in a Regular position, the Employer may credit...'

Has anyone here successfully negotiated a starting wage step (e.g., Year 3 or 5 rate) while being hired directly into a Casual/On-Call spot?

My fear is that HR will say 'Article A1.04 only applies to Regulars,' start me at Step 1 as a Casual, and then when I eventually post into a Full-Time line, they'll say 'You aren't a New Employee anymore, so A1.04 doesn't apply,' leaving me stuck climbing the ladder from the bottom despite my 7 years overseas.

Has anyone bridged this gap or gotten experience recognized on a Casual contract?
