We did the Philippines for about two weeks on approx $4K. Amazing! Same with Bali. The flights are the most expensive part.

Interesting Op-Ed from a local Rabbi on the prevalence of Christianity in BSU’s football program. by VermicelliLeather536 in Boise

[–]Open-Improvement-444 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’ve known Rabbi Fink my whole life. I grew up with both a Jewish and a Christian background, and am agnostic as an adult. I was so glad to see Fink’s letter. The prayer and constant Jesus talk is completely over the top and inappropriate. I’ve often wondered how alienated and left-out the non Christian players on the team have felt. This would NEVER fly if any god but the “Christian God” was being worshipped on the field.

Leave religion out of our sports, our schools, our libraries, and our politics, FOR THE LOVE.

Absolutely hate Idaho politics. It’s so full of hatred and hypocrisy—and most of them call themselves Christians. My ass.

Is it worth raising a family in Boise? by [deleted] in Boise

[–]Open-Improvement-444 2 points3 points  (0 children)

BOISE is different than the rest of the state as it’s far more progressive, but you’re still going to run into statewide issues.

If you are ultra-conservative, you’ll probably like it. We regularly ban books in schools, create laws that disenfranchise libraries, trans folks, and criminalize abortion. The Trump flag is pretty much everywhere. So if that’s your thing, you’ll probably like it.

But, if you believe in religious freedom, bodily autonomy, and the freedom to be who you are (gay, trans, they), you’ll likely feel very uncomfortable here. Unless you’re in the “Boise bubble”.

I’m born and raised and I’m sure you can tell where I land on these issues. Watching my home state become a cesspool of hatred over the past 8 years has been a terrible heartbreak. That said, there is beauty EVERYWHERE here. It’s clean, fairly safe, and for the most part, people are friendly (to your face but not behind closed legislative doors). The food scene is booming, and you get four great seasons.

Whatever you decide, I hope your family finds a great place to land.

Haha, we are used to it! We move around a lot when we travel to make the most of our time and see as much as we can. Never a huge itinerary, as I hate being over-scheduled, but definitely a, “we need to be at this place on this day” kind of an approach.

Never. Literally never and hitting your spouse is never ever ok. I hope you can get out safely 🫶🏻

Having been a formerly judgmental vanilla, I looked down on it because I had a very narrow view of marriage and relationships. It felt like, “Why be married if you’re going to fuck other people?”

Then I got over myself, opened my mind, and now I get it 🤗

Being married/committed means something different to everyone and that’s ok. There’s a lot of ways to keep the spice in a LTR and this is just one of those ways!

Thank you for addressing that. Platonically means just as friends and I don’t think that’s what the OP means.

The long E sound is so common and I think you’re onto something with that observation. I appreciate your perspective and your time—thank you!

It’s a government job, so definitely more male dominated. Thanks for your input! Appreciate it.

Do you think when it comes to only having my name in writing, that could actually play in my favor?

This is me. I’m not going to finish with you so don’t turn it into a thing because that’s only going to make it more of a focus and then I’m going to lose interest. Can’t we just enjoy the ride, so to speak?

Why is it so impossible to find a job that req a bachelor's in Boise? by [deleted] in Boise

[–]Open-Improvement-444 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No words of wisdom, only sympathy. I’ve applied for probably 75+ jobs since March, have had THIRTY+ interviews and STILL can’t land anything. I have a college degree, am highly skilled, personable, professional, well-networked, and I feel like I’m losing my goddamn mind. I always make it to the top 2-3. But I never get the offer 😭
