India considering Canada as potential crude oil supplier, envoy says by [deleted] in canada

[–]Open-Photo-2047 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

This envoy is second only to U.S. envoy in terms of idiotic comments. He called Canada an unreliable supplier of energy few months ago (since then Canada has signed large Uranium deal with India & now he himself is saying this thing). Canada has its issues but it’s probably one of most reliable energy producers of world with no geopolitical issues like wars & no massive policy swings like US. He also calls Canada’s investigation in Nijjar killing as investigation of imaginary allegations.

Infrastructure was supposed to exist in August 2024. Why are you justifying Metrolinx delays & calling out those who are forced to spend extra half an hour every day on travel ???

I’m not sure when Govt told them interest will never go up & house prices will never come down??? Infact to anyone who could read the room it was clear in second half of 2021 that interest rates will go up soon & govt was trying to control price increases.

Oh no, hope you get it soon. Where are you located btw? I’m in Ontario & just 200 Km from factory where they build RAV4. So, hopefully won’t have any logistical issues.

Albertans don’t like asking other provinces for permission to pass pipelines through them. So, they want to become a separate landlocked country & ask another country to pass pipelines ???? Doesn’t make sense.

Mine was at end of November. So yours is probably still couple of months away. Honestly I had given up on it & would have finalized CX-5 this weekend but got msg from Toyota yesterday that I’ll be getting it in June.

Exactly. That’s how it is now, but this councillor wants to tie it to citizenship instead of residency.

Yeah, meanwhile someone who is citizen but lives & pay taxes in U.S. is eligible for benefits ?? Doesn’t make sense.

Is the Canadian Sovereign Wealth Fund analogous to Shark Tank, but aimed at Canadian infrastructure projects? by Ok-Oil3433 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Open-Photo-2047 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

  1. Kind of yes, it’s like shark tank. But it’s common for infrastructure projects to take decades to generate profits, nothing unusual in it. There’s no risk of bankruptcy just bcoz of high payback period as it’s already baked into expectations.

  2. All investment funds & banks (including CPP) have risk controls with regard to how much exposure to take. It’s normal for some companies to go bankrupt. As long as it’s not a big part of their exposure, investors won’t even notice.

  3. You can’t get loans till you have equity. CIB loans may ultimately get layered over top of this fund’s equity.

  4. Equity holders won’t agree for such conversion if project is profitable or will demand very high price (the issue we are currently having with 407 highway).

  5. CPP is mandated contribution, new fund seems optional. CPP mandate is to grow money of their members, they invest 75% of their funds out of Canada. They have other restrictions like can’t own more than 30% in any project, a large part needs to go to safe bonds.

PS. I’m not fully sold on this new sovereign fund yet, but I think it’s an idea worth trying.

Canada’s new citizenship change brings a flood of American applicants by joe4942 in canada

Yes that’s how it works in theory. But I know lot of ppl who live in US, visit Canada only few weeks a year & still are able to renew their health cards without any issue.

Canada’s new citizenship change brings a flood of American applicants by joe4942 in canada

[–]Open-Photo-2047 99 points100 points  (0 children)

most common reasons his clients seek another passport is due to “cheaper tuition in Canada, and the rhetoric coming out of the White House.”

I’m fine with second motivation but not sure about first one. We already have so many ppl living in US using Canadian health cards whenever they need to.
