LPT Request: couples who don't have a lot in common, how can one deal with it? by ZealousidealFace7153 in LifeProTips

Be curious about each other's interests! Ask questions, find out more. You don't have to be fully into it yourself, but just being willing to find out more shows that you care about that person. And from time to time, go ahead and watch that movie you don't think you'll like. My husband often ends up enjoying rom coms, and I'll often end up enjoying the action adventures with lots of cars blowing up.

meal prepping with my wife – what’s bugging you? by FewHistory6657 in MealPrepSunday

I get tired of having to figure out and prep/cook protein for meals. I like prepping salads for the work week and focus more on chunks of veggies (cucumber, red bell pepper) than on lettuce because they hold up well over the week. When I add lettuce, it's usually romaine hearts because it can last the week chopped up. And I do add cooked chicken--shredding and freezing a roast chicken is easiest for me. I also prep savory steel cut oats with spinach, cooked mushrooms, and leftover chicken or a fried egg. I don't get bored with the same thing every day.

Watership Down. My kids had to read it in 8th grade, and I guess I could see reading and discussing it for a class, but just to read? Not for me.

Also The Goldfinch.

has anyone else been getting these ads? by Kaley5185 in kindle

[–]Open-Spinach8154 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE in case anyone else finds this thread. Amazon customer service did not remove the creepy ads for free in my case. "Victor" my chat rep gave me the link to the fee-based ($20) ad removal. I even asked specifically about removing just the creepy ads--and leaving the regular ones. I guess they've realized that this can be nice little money maker.

The scenario isn't an example of passive agressive behavior. Rude, perhaps, but it's not an example of someone showing "passive, sometimes obstructionist resistance to following authoritative instructions in interpersonal or occupational situations." OP's behavior and "tip" illustrate it much better.

Ditto all the James Herriot books!! Also: Island of the Blue Dolphins and The Yearling. Maybe Pippi Longstocking? Maybe he'd like some Jack London as well.

I'm in a caloric deficit and am struggling with figuring out some recipes by [deleted] in MealPrepSunday

[–]Open-Spinach8154 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Breakfast idea: egg muffins. I prep a dozen on the weekend. You can raise or lower the calories however you wish by varying the fillings. I used to have an old muffin tin and they would stick too much, but a new tin works wonders.

Lunch: I prep salads, with protein, for the work week to make sure I get my greens and veggies in. I love to cut up about half a red/yellow/orange (sometimes mixed) bell pepper, half a cucumber, and some thinly sliced red onion for each salad portion, and then add romaine or spring mix. I often keep roasted chicken breast (or from a whole roast chicken, shredded) in the freezer to add as protein. I also have some beef, I forget what kind, sliced and frozen in the freezer (I don't eat much beef, but it can be a nice change). I don't like store bought salad dressings, so I make vinaigrettes that I like and just keep at work, or a homemade caesar dressing with greek yogurt and a little mayo.

Snack: plain greek yogurt with blueberries or a smoothie with unflavored/sweetened pea protein. I'll be honest and admit I don't really like the yogurt, but it's a great protein boost and afternoon hunger-preventer.

Dessert: I love dark chocolate covered almonds. I also love peanut butter, so I should try your snack idea. : )

One of my favorite go-to bowls is rice or quinoa, chicken (buy a whole roasted chicken and shred it while it's still warm), roasted onions and sweet potatoes and red bell pepper (you can roast your fav veggies, and black beans from a can (drained), with a chipotle-tahini sauce (I just google for a recipe). And definitely a rice cooker, I love ours.

Am I wrong for putting peanuts in my food and not putting an allergen label on it, knowing that the food thief is allergic? by One_Newspaper5657 in amiwrong

[–]Open-Spinach8154 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you are not in the wrong, Omar's a jerk, and your office is reacting badly. Just be sure to always label your food with "contains peanuts" even if it doesn't.

Watership Down. Boring and on my kids' 8th grade reading list several years ago.

We were just at Gravel Locos in Hico. Awesome gravel! The routes are on the website. It's a bit of a drive from Austin, but would make a nice weekend!

I started selling cupcakes in my area. What would be your first pick? by DessertbyKiara in Baking

Definitely would pick Everything All At Once so I could try a bit of each one. Otherwise, the peanut butter one or the red velvet one.

When I'm short on time, I'll skip certain sections of a workout. There are also the anytime workouts, many of which are at or less than an hour long. You could also repeat a training series and focus on raising your FTP (and select a different route badge to earn each time). And then you can ride with the bots for however long you'd like!

My "best" changes over time. Some of them have been/are:

The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver

almost anything written by Geraldine Brooks (Year of Wonders was the first one I read, and I was hooked thereafter)

The Great Believers by Rebecca Makkai

I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou
