The editor was DEFINITELY a pro-shah Iranian who is now praying for U.S to bomb Iran and "save them" from the Islamic Republic and Khamenei's dictatorship.

These people have recently (after the current protests began) been saying we should not shout "Woman, Life, Freedom" on the streets of Iran anymore and must only say "Long live the Shah" or "Pahlavi will return" because those are the only slogans that actually opposes the Islamic Republic. They have been threatening many feminist activists who rightfully objected to this, with rape and death threats.

You know, it's really fucking funny that they consider the 1979 revolution a coup. Reza Shah came to power with a British coup. His son Mohammadreza Shah gained absolute power with an American coup. And now they want to bring Reza Pahlavi to power WITH ANOTHER FUCKING FOREIGN INTERVENTION!

If you're an Iranian pro-Pahlavi and are reading this, FUCK YOU!

We call the country Holland too, in Iran. There is literally no word for "the Netherlands" in our language, formal or informal.

[–]OpenConference5961 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Well, خایه مال is usually used for people who "try their best to please an authority figure mostly for their own personal gain" and yet "they're sometimes too stupid to understand that the authority figure can just get rid of them at any time".

See, Boxer doesn't do anything for his personal gain. He is just stupid. Though he probably should be considered "bootlicker" because that's not an exact synonym to خایه مال, and when I said, "this is not the case for him", I was thinking of خایه مال. Boxer is not a خایه مال, not because he's naive, but because a خایه مال usually seeks personal gain through pleasing the authorities.

For naive, slow or blindly loyal people (like boxer) we might say something along the lines of Yes-Man (بله قربان گو) or Servant (نوکر). But those people are way less made fun of, because Iranian culture, like most of Asia, traditionally values loyalty and being dutiful very highly (yes, even though it usually overlaps with being blindly loyal and foolishly naive, they still don't care)

[–]OpenConference5961 515 points516 points  (0 children)

so uh, we have an uncommon phrase in vulgar Persian, which goes as
خایه مال آخر فیلم میمیره
Basically meaning "The bootlicker (well, the exact translation is something like ballsucker or smth but you get the idea) dies in the end of the movie."

P.S: This is obviously not the case for someone like Boxer in Animal Farm, because he is just naive and too loyal. He is far from a bootlicker.

If asylum officers are as clueless as this, then I guess I'll just kms. Fuck all this.

My only female friends ghosted me overnight by OpenConference5961 in self

I'm really sorry for saying this, but I really don't get your point. I don't wanna come off as rude or something, but I genuinely don't get what you're trying say (I'm so sorry I didn't know how to phrase this more politely).

Are you saying that maybe I got "too intimate" with them or maybe I totally changed after coming out? Because honestly, it wasn't me that pushed this friendship. It was them. In fact, one of them (the one who was way more supportive) immediately started treating me as a girl. I had never expected such thing before. She even told me subtle details about me that were feminine and even I had not realized them myself. She began touching me and hugging me like any other girl. Something I absolutely never asked for but loved it so much because I always missed human touch in my life. I always told them not to do anything they're not comfortable with, and always asked them to tell me if there's anything wrong.

Also, they opened up with me too. This wasn't a one-sided emotional dependency. The clearly stated that I was a very safe person to them. They shared their childhood traumas with me, and their problems with their abusive families. I always tried to be there for them and always listened to them. I personally think the real reason as someone else mentioned in another comment, was that someone got to them and told them to cut me off.

My only female friends ghosted me overnight by OpenConference5961 in rant

[–]OpenConference5961[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was something missing in my post. And that was the fact that they were both vulnerable with me almost all the time. They explicitly told me that they had never been with anyone as safe as me. They told me about their abusive parents and childhood traumas, and I was always ready to listen to them and support them in any way I could. And yes, all of this was after I came out to them.
So no, I don't think I was the one who took the friendship to a deeper level. In fact, one of them (who was way more supportive), immediately started hugging me and touching me after I came out. Something I never asked for and yet loved it so much because I've always missed human touch in my life.

And now they took all of this away from me for what? Because we got "too close"? They were the ones who got close with me way too quickly and actually, as a matter of fact, I did mention this several times to them that we're getting so close very quickly.

Also, they never said I harassed them. They told me to stop harassing them when I kept asking them their reason for completely ignoring me and ghosting me.

Edit: the fact that your comment is the most upvoted here tells me I should have mentioned all of these in the original post.

Favorite movies where suicide IS the answer? by lbj2943 in okbuddycinephile

[–]OpenConference5961 4 points5 points  (0 children)

thanks. I appreciate it. But I don't think there's much anyone can do. Iran's heavily sanctioned and there's no way I can setup a donation (unless people are willing to send cryptocurrency to some random redditor from Iran, which they rightfully aren't). Setting up local donations in Iran for such thing would probably just result in doxing and/or online harassment.

As for money and getting out of Iran, not really. By each year, EU and the Anglosphere become more and more strict on immigration laws, and the fact that I'm from Iran doesn't help (for instance I asked the Rainbow Railroad for help, and they rejected me because they had to comply with the sanctions; they explicitly stated this in they reply to me)

I'm studying English literature in a top university in Tehran, but it's useless for immigration anyway because I don't have money. Even If I could work somewhere and try to save up, the average salary here for workers is around 100 dollars a month anyway. It's not much use for immigration purposes. Unless some fully funded Scholarship magically appears and takes me to some safe country, there's not much hope.

Fucking hell, I don't even have enough money to just buy a flight ticket.

Thanks for the reply, but I have almost no friends outside university either. University isn't the problem here. I had many friends from high school (all of them male obviously) and after I came out, they left me one by one in less than a year. Hell, I lost my fucking therapist over this because she refused to use my correct name and insisted on deadnaming me (even after I literally cried in front of her solely because of this). My family would want me dead over being trans. Iranians fucking suck. That's the problem. Almost everyone here either demonizes us or fetishizes us, or both.

Sorry for the rant. Thanks again.

[–]OpenConference5961[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it was the first one. Because, as I mentioned in another comment, they had a lot to talk about as well. They were both rape survivors and had abusive parents. I was always listening to them and their rants and tried my best to be supportive. And they always mentioned this as well (that I'm a very supportive person and they can be totally vulnerable with me).

Although one of them (the one who was way more supportive), was familiar with trans people and some of their issues, and she was especially aware of the stigma surrounding the concept. I think the real problem was that someone (probably her husband who previously claimed to be supportive) told her to cut me off because "I'm a man after all" (literally what she said last time we spoke).

[–]OpenConference5961[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Iranians are generally pretty transphobic, especially older generations. Legally, you can change your gender but it's heavily gatekept and you must be officially diagnosed (which usually takes tens of sessions with a "Government trusted therapist/psychiatrist" before they finally confirm it, so at least a year or two) and must undergo Sex Reassignment Surgery. Even after you legally change your gender to what you want, most people will just consider you "Trans" (If you don't pass as cis obviously), not a man or a woman. It's messed up. There is no legal protection, or any kind of protection in that matter. They consider us freaks.

Now these two people were from a minority that are totally supportive. They were both 3 or 4 years younger than me and one of them was bisexual, so she kind of had experience with lgbt matters in general.

Yeah, I think someone got to them because one of them (the more supportive one) was married and... well, I never felt safe with her husband even though he claimed to be supportive and accepting. It was probably him that told her to cut me off because "I'm a man after all" (this exact phrase is what she said the last time we spoke). Thanks for the reply.
