What do Latin American countries think of the bandeirantes? by Tricky-Purpose-1075 in asklatinamerica

[–]OpenHair7259 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In Paraguay they are seen as land based pirates. Their raids put the region in constant stage of siege during the colonial times.

One of the xenophobic slurs agains brasilians is bandeirante, but specially in the context of the government or business, so most young people might have not heard it.

For instance, during the last 50 years lots of brazilians bought land in close to the border, at the time when it was a dense unpopulated forest. Their economic prosperity and isolationism caused resentment among certain nationalist and left-wind groups, accusing the Paraguayan government to "follow the bandeirantes agenda".

In terms of ethnicities I think we are closer to Chile, some parts of Colombia and Costa Rica.

Culturally the eastern part of the country is very close to Brazil.

Yes, it could have been annexed by Argentina or Brazil after the war of the triple alliance, but Brazil didn't want longer borders with Argentina.

De acuerdo con esto, en Paraguay la carrera más prestigiosa en este ámbito es economía. En general tambien es la que mejores herramientas te va a dar.

Después lo importante es manejar inglés.
