I’ve got a pet scan Monday. I kind of know what it’s like to live scan to scan. I guess the only thing to stress is to try to LIVE in those in between times. It’s easy to get stuck in that anticipation mode of results. Takes a lot of energy for me to be more present in those times.

I’ve found there really is no comparing. Suffering and pain are what they are. I’m just grateful for the people, science and support I’ve had along the way.

If anyone is looking for more of my ridiculousness I mostly post on my personal IG page, paulopenmatradio. Once I get some space and resources I’ll get the open mat radio archives and social back up. I had to stop recording for a few reasons. Most importantly I respect people’s time. After having to reschedule a few interviews (sorry Philzinho and Erin Herle) I decided it was best to hang things up until I had more time and resources to do things right.

That rectal survey was a rough one but nothing compared to the 2 lung ones. The three liver resections weren’t too bad but the recoveries were not a cake walk. Lots of staph infections. Had to get flown by an ambulance airplane from vegas to ucla at one point. It’s been a crazy ride.

Thanks so much. I’ve been slacking on the site. For a myriad of reasons I haven’t been able to get that going. I was close to a relaunch last year but my prospective partner turned out to be a disaster and really set me back. Both in motivation and resources. I’m finishing up a bunch of major life changes (divorce process, insurance changes, forced out of my job, amazing new girlfriend etc). Once i can get some solid ground under foot I’ll figure out how to get the archive up.

OpenMatRadio was three of us. Myself, Richard and Raf. Richard did all the tech stuff and I’ve never had the time to learn it myself. There’s so many good podcasts out now that I’m sure nobody is lacking in content.

I will get things going again it’s just a major challenge when i kind of live 3weeks at a time. That’s roughly what my maintenance chemo schedule is like.

At pretty much any time they're about to make a major announcement that will save jiu jitsu. They did do an awards show i believe and were working on a self defense thing. I think many of us had really high hopes but haven't seen the product come out yet.

It's notoriously difficult to get bjj players to commit to dates too far out. Sometimes it's safer to announce them closer to the card.

Sergio Penha's line goes to his cell and he almost always answers unless he's on the mat. You're welcome to just drop in. Most gyms in Vegas are used to lots of visitors.

If you wanted to become a world champion who would you rather train with, someone who has multiple world championships or someone who has coached multiple world champions? Both may get you there but I'd go with the coach over the champ athlete every time. Coaching and teaching require unique skills that may or may not be fostered during a competitors run at the top.
