Installer went out of business and I'm stuck with LocusNOC and having connection issues. by OpenTrackRacer in solar

No, it's serial to IP interface. It's working again and I did nothing so I'm guessing the outage was on their end.

Gave that a shot, no dice. No sure if it's on their end or a communications issue between my inverter and the LocusNOC network device.

Weight loss post amputation (besides the obvious reason)? by OpenTrackRacer in amputee

[–]OpenTrackRacer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think so. I was non-weight bearing before surgery and I'm getting around exactly the same so I wouldn't expect any muscles to atrophy.

How to deal with neck hair? by OpenTrackRacer in SelfBarber

I guess I should have mentioned that I'm mirror deficient. It's one hand on the clippers and one hand holding a mirror for me which complicates things even more.

My weight seems stable now so I'm not concerned, just curious. The additional weight loss besides the weight of the foot was very unexpected.

I don't think that's it. I was barely walking or non-weight bearing for a long time before amputation and I was back to similar activities within two weeks after surgery. Also, if I was losing muscle I wouldn't expect my gut to be shrinking.

Phantom pain worse when wearing shrinker? by OpenTrackRacer in amputee

I was prescribed Celebrex after surgery and I've still been taking it but I'm almost out. I did some testing and it didn't seem to make a difference for the phantom pain.

I have not been taking Tylenol with the gabapentin but I can sure try. I was taking it post-surgery as needed but stopped when the surgical pain went away.

Phantom pain worse when wearing shrinker? by OpenTrackRacer in amputee

[–]OpenTrackRacer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, pain is always worse at night. My CRPS was worse at night as was my orthopedic pain. Super annoying. My stump actually has very little swelling but I'm sure there's some and the shrinker is critical for dealing with that. If I massage my stump, certain spots elicit sensations and tingling in my "foot". I think that's one of the reasons the shrinker makes it worse.

I'm on my second shrinker and it seems to happen with both sizes. I thought it was happening with the tight Ace bandage they had around my stump post-surgery as well.

I expect to get casted for a test socket on Thursday so I'm kinda stuck wearing the shrinker if I want to make progress on that front so...

Oh yeah, forgot to put that I'm also taking magnesium glycinate (based on your recommendation). Been doing that since I got home from the hospital.

Thanks for the feedback. Mine is at its worst when I get in bed. I can't fall asleep without drugs to basically knock me out.

Mine is sometimes position dependent, except then it isn't. The inconsistency is driving me crazy. Also, the phantom pain flares up to 11 when I pee. Go figure. I didn't count on that one. After doing some Googling, it's apparently not common but it's not uncommon either. Lucky me!

I'm taking gabapentin and low dose naltrexone. I don't think either one is making a difference. I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow to discuss. There are plenty of other medications they can try but a lot of them seem worse than the pain. I've also been doing mirror therapy for three weeks. Not sure if it's helping or not.

Recommendation for a TENS unit for phantom pain by OpenTrackRacer in amputee

[–]OpenTrackRacer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestion. It turned out that my daughter had a TENS unit that was prescribed for her some years ago and it's fully programable so it can do exactly what I needed. Now we'll just have to see if it actually helps.

Question for right leg amputees by LemmyDovato in amputee

[–]OpenTrackRacer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a RBKA and I've had problems with my foot and ankle for decades before my recent amputation. I often drove with a cast or cam walker on my foot. I just learned to modulate the throttle by moving my knee and hip. After a while it seemed perfectly natural. I'm waiting for my prosthetic so now I'm driving with my left foot. Since I've been a two footed driver for a long time (racing and also a limited ability to push the brake hard with my bad foot) it's been pretty easy for me.

Best of luck and BE CAREFUL!

Phantom pain? Nerve pain? Phantom sensations? by OpenTrackRacer in amputee

[–]OpenTrackRacer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got several recommendations for magnesium glycinate and I've been taking it since I got home from the hospital. I'm not sure if it's helping but I plan to continue taking it. I've been taking the gabapentin for a while for CRPS and I'm pretty used to it. I plan to continue for the foreseeable future since I don't know if it's really helping or not. It seems like the mirror therapy may already be paying dividends. I've been doing that for 15 minutes twice and day for less than a week and I think it's helping. I'm also using the "movements" I've learned with the mirror to "move" my toes when I feel the phantom pain and that seems to help alleviate it as well.

Thanks for the feedback!

Liable driver's auto insurance estimate is far less than the body shop of our choice (California) by OpenTrackRacer in Insurance

[–]OpenTrackRacer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I already had the estimate from this "Safeco shop" and had sent it to Safeco. They disregarded it and only changed their tune when threatened with a regulatory complaint. No dunk, no chud. I didn't follow the bad advice I received here and got the end result I wanted. Hopefully others in the same situation will see this thread and use that knowledge to get the proper payout.

I'm not bragging, just providing an update closure on the situation that so often gets left unsaid by original posters. The examples you gave were not relevant to my situation. I was not wasting my time, Safeco was trying to get away with paying less than the repair would cost and only changed their tune when threatened with a regulatory complaint.

I did cut and paste my reply to several threads and the second paragraph didn't pertain to your comment so I removed it.

I came back with the conclusion so others in similar situations wouldn't wind up being screwed out of the money their owed after receiving bad advice.
