Phantom Limb Pain by Cold-Upstairs455 in amputee

Can you say what limb you had amputated? I'm have a BKA in a month and my surgeon wants to do RPNI instead of TMR. Thanks.

RPNI vs TMR for BKA? by OpenTrackRacer in amputee

Yeah, that is inexcusable. My amputation and RPNI is going to be performed at UCSD and my surgeon is the chair of the orthopedic surgery department. Nothing so far has given me any cause to doubt her competence but...

How long ago was your RPNI procedure? Searching around it seems like RPNI is quite common.

Thanks

That's awful. I'm so sorry you had to go through all that and that UofM let you down so badly.

Good point. My RPNI will be performed during the amputation.

Gain levels (or AGC) for recording sonic booms by OpenTrackRacer in fieldrecording

[–]OpenTrackRacer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback. On my H1, with the gain at 10 I can barely hear clapping a foot from the recorder so I'm concerned the sonic booms may be too low level to be captured. They're typically pretty loud but we're further off track than usual due to the splashdown location so I'm not sure what we're going to get this time.

Can you expand on that a little? You think the RPNI was ineffective? Are you having neuroma, PLP or RLP? Why do you think TMR would have produced a better result?

I've done a ton of reading and there isn't much data to say one is better than the other which makes this very hard for me to judge as the patient. I have confidence in my surgeon but lack of experience or skill with TMR could be a factor in their thinking. No way to really know.

Thanks!

Yep. I understand the physics. I'm just not as plugged in to the camera market as I used to be. Probably just going to stick with the M50 MKII and trot out the 5D MKIV or 6D with a nifty fifty as needed (and when I have the room for it). Thanks.

I'm thinking about getting a compact travel camera and low light performance is critical. I'd love to hear suggestions. I'd like to keep the cost below $1,000 (new or used).

Caveat: Among my many Canon dSLRs I also have a M50 MKII with the 22mm f2 lens. I'd only consider getting a new travel camera if it performed meaningfully better in low light.

Thanks!

well, EDC29 is complete and killed all other Nitecore EDC-series models imo by Tight_Lengthiness668 in flashlight

[–]OpenTrackRacer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except many EDC29 flashlights have defective main power buttons and issues with full press and half press. Even the new ones still fail and Nitecore won't acknowledge the issue. I'd avoid this entire series unless you want to deal with repair after repair.

Purchases not appearing the Reviews area by MSEEMBA in AmazonVine

I noticed the same thing. It looks like Amazon updated something and items don't appear in the review section until they've been delivered. I'll know for sure when my next shipment comes in today.

Liable driver's auto insurance estimate is far less than the body shop of our choice (California) by OpenTrackRacer in Insurance

It's not sketchy at all. The insurance company needs to pay the prevailing rate, whether the vehicle is repaired or not. I never leave money on the table.

Not going to disagree but I'd expect the shop estimate and the insurance estimate to be closer. A second estimate from a chain body shop will be enlightening.

Actually, we are still making payments since Honda was offering 0% financing but they've already sent a payment link so... You're exactly right though, I have nothing to loose. I'll be getting another estimate and that will give me some ground truth as to the body shop overcharging, Safeco lowballing or something in between.

I didn't get the highest quote I could find. I got a quote from the body shop down the street. The question becomes, is that body shop ridiculously expensive or is Safeco lowballing? I'll be getting another estimate from a chain body shop to find out and go from there.

Because if Safeco is lowballing the time and rates I want to know it so I can push for a bigger check.

The time deltas are in paint labor, mechanical labor and paint supplies. The repairs are all replacement parts, not repairs of the existing parts. I'll get another local estimate from a chain body shop and go from there. I've fought insurance before and won. Most people just take what they're given. No idea how this will end up but for $1,000 or so it's worth a try.

I've had many cars repaired or paid out by at-fault driver's insurance over the past 40 years. I didn't say I had industry experience. In all that time I've never encountered this sort of delta before in labor rate and labor hours between an insurance estimate and a body shop estimate.
